Hi greenstua,

Not sure if this is the one to which you were referring, but I happen to have the Pilot Guides 4-DVD set on India. On the episode about East India, the traveler buys a book called Autobiography of an Unknown Indian by Nirad C. Chaudhuri.

Hope this helps (I haven't read the book so don't know if it matches the subject you mentioned).

This probably doesn't help, but here are the books mentioned in the 12th Edition of the Lonely Planet.

The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai
Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
The God of All Small Thins by Arundhati Roy
A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth
Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
White Mughals by William Dalrymple
Hullabaloo is the Guava Orchid by Kiran Desai
The Alchemy of Desire by Tarun Tejpal
Are You Experienced? by William Sutcliffe
Inhaling the Mahatma by Chris Kremmer
Sorcerer's Apprentice by Tahir Shah
The Age of Kali by William Dalrymple
Journey to Ithaca by Anita Desai
Indian Summer by Will Randall
Karma Cola by Gita Mehta
Chasing the Monsoon by Alexander Frater

Any ring a bell?

I've just read a funny little graphic novel called Corridor that is set in Delhi and the main character is a chai wallah. ??

EDIT:

oh sorry, I was typing that while Locusstandi was posting. Looks like the Nellyo Telpan book is probably the one you want.
