How much is spent on firecrackers?

Hi..
I would like to know ...How much do people in India send on friecrakers during Diwali ? As they both go hand in hand..was just wondering!!!
..Does it go in thousands..?? I heard about that some people send as much as 1 Lakh..which was hard to believe..!!!

Any input would be welcome..!

Well, 500 rupees is extravagent in my family, people may spen even less. Also, this diwali as we were bursting crackers, two young kids came barefooted and asked for a few crackers which we gave. Heart wrenching it was. So the expenditure will be different from family to family.

100Rs to 1 Lakh

As Mridula said spending varies. When I was considered a kid (though I still vehemently refuse to believe I have grown up) we used to spend anything between 1000 to 2000 Rs for a family of 4 of which 2 never light any kind of firecrackers (that would be my parents).

Now I spend hardly 100 Rs to buy a few pack of sparklers so as to not to let the tradition die.

Young people are spending much less on crackers as they have other things & also the "say no to cracker" campaigns at schools have worked. I find older guys spending the most. I have noticed people layering a strech of the local road with crackers & bursting them. Recent clamp down by the Supreme court on the sound level & noise after 10 PM have also helped.
For middle class families around Rs.500/- seems to be the norm.
