Hitchens on Gandhi

It is so easy to cuddle up and criticise the past. One must read MO Mathai's book on the Jeep scam, the ayyangar commission, the mundhra scam and the many other blunders made which are costing India dearly even today. Who can forget the pain of the chinese fiasco. Nehru does not come out dove faced either. Gandhi did have his flaws as all of us do. But his method of struggle and the iron will to stand up against the oppressor still holds good. What has this modern consumption gotten us to? Before writing peppy lines on primitive and agrarian one must engage with the terms first. It is another flavour of the month and another swipe at India. What tangible evidence does the author have for his claims? It resembles a situation asking rasputin to write history.

Yes, you're both right....It's easy for us to criticize in hind-sight and hard for anyone to deliver results that count.....and that he did.

Curious to hear from Indians on the topic.

"It resembles a situation asking rasputin to write history." Is this a colloquialism? I've not heard it before, but like it.

Yup, Hitchens is an idiot on the Iraq war(IMO) but his critique on religion and Mother Teresa is spot on, IMO. You can find many of his current writings at:
