Hiring yourself out as a spectacle
Hiya,
I'm wondering if it'd be possible to make some money out of singing for an Indian public? It's either this or impromptu English lessons, methinks - can you guys give me any tips on how to hire myself out as an attraction? Epiphanie |

I tried this with an Indian gypsy performing troupe. I was fired as my voice was truly awful. I couldn't act or steal gracefully either, useless begari manus. A couple of years later I was in the area and someone asked me to sing. Another villager piped up in Marathi, don't ask, I have heard about this fellow. I have a reputation in rural Maharashtra, its just not a good one..

I don't think the trouble is getting people to watch you - it's getting people to give you money for it. Was that the intention?

Spectacle art
Yes, that was the intention, but I appreciate that ppl may find it difficult to conceive of supporting a foriegn act - I'll give it a go once I'm there, though, as you never know how ppl are biund to react!
DThanks for all the insights... I can't *wait* to go! Piff |

Epiphanie said, "I'm wondering if it'd be possible to make some money out of singing for an Indian public?" ------------------- Do you play any instruments as well as sing?,,,,,,,,,, A really good Busker, ie cymbols, drums the one man band scenario would surely survive in the cities. There used to be a guy in a kilt, connought area delhi playing the bagpipes, don't think it was cyberhippy in his guilt though, nevertheless he always seemed to have a sporan full of money. If you're just into singing, & want to be serious about it, How about fronting some of the bands that gig aound the larger hotels, I know there's quite a circuit in Goa and might well be in the cities too Good luck |
