hindi i know this is an ambiguous question but how easy is it for someone who has no previous knowledge of hindi to learn how to speak. Any non-native hindi speakers here who took a course or learnt themselves? if so, could you tell me your thoughts. Im thinking of taking a beginner's subject via Open Universities Australia Thanks in advance Last edited by Kanbe; Feb 6th, 2005 at 19:56.. Reason: typo

I'm learning hindi at the moment, through a tutor in Mumbai. It's an interesting language, I'm finding it relatively easy so far, though I haven't been learning it long, only a week or so. Once you learn the basic sentance structure and pronounciation, it's ok I think.

My wife and I have been learning Hindi (in a pretty casual way) for a couple years now. We've used self-teach books and recordings and on occasion are able to find people willing to teach us in a more formal way. We can now read and write the script, have a small vocabulary, know verb forms and sentence structure. It is still somewhat difficult to understand it when someone speaks in Hindi and it is sometimes hard to properly express what we want to say in Hindi as it requires a different "way" of expression even aside from the grammar. All in all a rewarding endeavor and we persevere... -Greg
