Gandhi

My fiancee has never seen the movie, so I rented it for her yesterday. I tell you, I've seen that movie about 5 times, and it still moves me everytime I see it.

Was she liking ???

If you loved the movie - you gotta read "In search of Gandhi" by Richard Attenborough - all about the movie from conception to screening - an unbelievable journey in its own right!

She was liking. I swear, man... there was a point when I got a little teary eyed watching the movie, and it was hard to keep it all manly. Haven't read the book, though.

Has anyone seen the movie Sexy Beast? It also has Ben Kingsley in it, and is about as far a role from Gandhi as you can get. Another brilliant movie, though.

How about "The Making of Mahatma" starring Rajat Kapoor. I heard it was brilliant.

Gandhi is a more uplifting film. Making of the mahatma the more interesting one. While Gandhi is all about a choreographed political statement about Gandhi's life and philosophies(not always from Gandhi's point of view, Attenborough seems to take patels or nehru's,and often the British side) Making of Mahatma is more Shyam benegal's speculation about the human Gandhi. the film, like the gandhi it tries to potrey is uneven , sometimes excellent, sometimes ameturish.

My dear Mother who was an elementary school student during the last years of Gandhi's life cannot help but retort when ever I mention Mahatma Gandhi(.. and learned this there) - responds: Mahatma Gandhi like sugar candy!

There is nothing to understand about it - it was a child's school playground rhyme that was common during the 1940's when Gandhi was a popular news item throughout the world. My Mom still blurts it out from time to time when she hears the name Gandhi - sort of a reflex action.

Well just watched it again! It hasn't changed - still a gem. Not a big Ravi Shankar fan but loved the Soundtrack - it just worked so well with the movie. Question? Why did Candice Bergen get second billing in the movie credits? Her part seemed very small compared to some of the other supporting actors. Anybody got any thoughts on that ....
