Gandhi Film

Watched Attenbrough's Gandhi film at the weekend
I was just wondering what the reaction was in India to this film
What criticisms did they make of it and what areas did they praise

Congrats Mike 2 years on
I remember stumbling on your site
It must have been around just after it had started and being blown away by it
Just returned to it after a lengthy trip ...Even better

Does anybody, in the London area, have a copy of the film on tape?

Iain

Send me a private message, I have the video, got it in a car boot sale for £2 a few years ago, your welcome to borrow it for a few weeks.

I live in Whitechapel.

Steve,

Off topic, but since you live in Whitechapel, fancy emailing me a few Beigels from THE Brick lane beigel shop. 2 smoked salmon + cream cheese, 3 cream cheese and a dozen plain would make a really nice change from chapati!

More (slightly) on topic, a good place I found to get second hand videos in your neck of the woods was a couple of the knick knack stalls in the small market near Canning town roundabout. I got a copy of citizen Kane and Bandit Queen for a quid each in good nick.

Woody

The smoked salmon + cream cheese Beigels are still only about £1.20 I think, amazing value for London.

Jewish Beigel shops in the middle of a Muslim area of Christian England.

Not a bad place to live

Agreed, whitechapel has a lot going for it. 24 hour beigels, pubs that dont exactly close (good ones too), a very very large number of good restaurants, a huge mosque, an artistic flavour and a lot of history.

I have a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel (I think we must use the American spelling) for my lunch today. I made it myself and I put capers on it too and a bit of lettuce. It looks yummolicious and I will spare a thought for you, Woody, when I eat it.

Just to bring this thread back to the Gandhi film!!!!!.....Don't know how it was received in India but the English woman given the name Mirahben by Gandhi was in her nineties when it was made. She was consulted by Attenborough and lived long enough to see the film which she "broadly approved of"

I realized, when Bryan posted the initial message, that I'd never seen the film.

I'm working on a client mailing this weekend (have to let them know I'll be away) and managed to borrow the Gandhi film from the library, so I can watch it while sealing envelopes and pasting down stamps.
