Good Hindi Film to start with

If you want to start with 3 hour Hindi musical tear jerkers, start with Kal Ho Naa Ho, it was filmed in NY and is a great introduction into the genre.

Not that long ago I (partly) saw a European or American movie on television here which was entirely shot in Hampi. It was a romantic dramady kind of movie about a team of archeologists from Europe, a corrupt indian official trafficking heritage artwork, an indian schoolmistress and a badly depicted sadhu. The best actors were undoubtedly the monkeys though. I didn't like the story all too much but since it was entirely shot in the stunning Hampi and the monkeys were so good i kept watching.
Anybody a clue about the name of this movie? A quick google didn't help me.

I think Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was actually shot mostly in Sri Lanka, but was masquerading as India.

Siddhartha, directed by Conrad Rooks.

is this Siddhartha, by any chance, an adaptation of Herman Hesse's novel by the same name ?

I haven't seen it yet but a documentary called Born into Brothels. It is about children living in brothels. It was released in a few theatres not too long ago but I think you will have to wait for it ot come out on DVD, that is if you are intrerested.

Add to the list 'Holy Smoke' with Harvey Keitel and Kate Winslet.

Parts of the movie are shot in India.

Kate is also naked and Harvey wears a dress

See also from our gallery Kate in Rishikesh for Kate fans.

Whilst not Goa , William Dalrymple's third documentary in his superb Indian Journeys trilogy is set in Kerala and features scenery from the backwaters. It's entitled 'Doubting Thomas' and explores WD's theories of how Saint Thomas introduced Christianity into Kerala.

The first in the series is entitled 'Shiva's Matted Locks' and follows WD's search for the source of the Ganges. The naked Sadhu he meets who rides about on an Enfield is a classic.

The middle one 'City of Djinns' is set in Delhi and follows the themes of his book of the same name.

I was able to puchase the trilogy (VHS only) through Icon Films in the UK.The contact person was a Laura Marshall who was most helpful, and is credited on the video as being the Associate Producer of the series. The overall production values of the series is quite high, with superb photography etc.
