filming bollywood movie in jaisalmer

while in jaisalmer last nov/dec a bollywood movie was being filmed. we stumbled on it by chance when visiting barah bagh and had a great time. local villagers, dancers and musicians were there, all in traditional dress, and the camels were in all their finery. it was a great sight, and we were approached on arrival by an official who said we could photograph anything we wanted as being filmed was the object of the day.

sitting under one of the cenotaphs was a group of musicians, one of whom had the longest moustache i've ever seen, he was a real poser, great fun and really played to the camera. after a while he beckoned my husband to join him, he took off his turban abd put it on my husband's head, and the pair of them danced for a while to the traditional music. unfortunately because of the shadows under the cenotaph the photos weren't all that great - and even more unfortunately no-one wanted to sign my husband up for the movie!

it was a great experience, one of those you happen on by chance in india. do any of you guys know the title of the film being made?

At any given time (as you probably know) there are dozens of Bollywood films being shot in India. The dance numbers could be shot in a 'schedule' months or sometimes even years before or after the main movie is filmed ! So to know what film that was you got to watch being filmed is pretty hard to say. Do you know who the lead stars were? That time Ash, the Big B, and Akshay Kumar were shooting Khakee, possibly that was the film? If so you missed three of the biggest stars in the world while you were taking pictures of camels lol just kidding...
post some of the pictures of the dance number, maybe some one on here can identify.

I have just finished four days shooting of the new Aamir Khan movie, THe Rising here in dusty Pune! We got accommodation, food, transport (to/from BOmbay or Goa) as well as daily pay from 600 to 1500 Rupees. It was great fun but a lot of work, filming at night from 1600 till 7 in the morning, they will be shooting again in March and April.

That sounds great! If all goes as planned this film, "The Rising" could be the big breakthrough Bollywood film that crosses over to the West. It is very possible too that "The Rising" could be one of the all time great Hindi Popular Films ever made. Congratulations for making it on the set.

Smile November 2003 Bollywood Film Jaisalmer

My husband and I were in Jaisalmer at that same time and watch the film being made. We have been trying to figure out what movie it was for the past year and a half. Today we figured it out. It is Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. We watched them filming the dance scene to Chali Aa Chali Aa. You can look up the movie and listen to the soundtrack via IMDB.com. I hope this helps solve your mystery. We feel relieved.

Also - did you see them filming the French film with Vijay Raaz during the same time. Its called Hari Om and is now making it around the independent film circut.

Cheers

Just saw HARI OM recently. A pleasant little film of no real substance or importance and with a familiar plot, but it's full of Delhi & Rajasthani scenery and lots of great auto rickshaw action. I hadn't realized it starred Vijay Raaz until I saw him on screen - what a fun surprise - he's one of my favorite actors and he's very good here. So see it in the theatre if you can or rent the DVD when it comes out!
