Do you like/would you care to try Bollywood musical movies? In case the answer is yes - the movie Swades is about an Indian man who works for NASA, who goes back to India to find his nanny who raised him, and then gets involved in important issue facing the village where she lives.

Might fill the bill as you see India through the eyes of a man who lives in the west, and you see a decient amount of it as he travels "home." The star is Shah Rukh Khan, India's favorite male actor -- one of mine as well - and you might enjoy the response you will get when you talk to Indians about him.

He is also in Paheli, which is photographed beautifully in Rajasthan.

On a different note, Black Friday is a documentary-style/no-music movie about the bomb blasts that rocked Bombay in 1993 - the story is told very authentically - I for one was able to grasp the complicated social history of that horrible event from watching this movie. Great acting by Kay Kay Menon in particular as the investigating officer.

Among the recent movies, I recommend Little Miss Sunshine.

Black Friday is a bold documentary movie, describes the blasts, prologue, aftermath and what the people went through in a neutral way. The movie got lucky to clear the censors after 3 years.

There is another documentary named Final Solution (Aakhri Rastha) based on 2002 Godhra riots. Have you seen it ?

Latcho Drom is great for it's opening Rajasthan scenes

Swades is great for new/old India clash

Devdas for the costumes, hot bollywood women.

One of my all time favorites is Dhoom. Modern bollywood blockbuster with great soundtrack. Dhoom2 is very entertaining too.
