And sure they did show a border and two kids
Oh.....that's the one you all are talking about. Another with kids playing football in the rains was on my mind till now. Yes that border advt is nice. Before I could see it Mom knew I would definitely like it.

But I did not see the relation between cross-border friendship and being able to talk on phone. Folks on both sides of the border can talk without Airtel, standing in their own land . Guess I need to see it again to see the relation.

I also loved the Nivea ad "Here comes the sun, it's for everyone ..." Nice music!

The message I feel Airtel is trying to communicate is that communication is the way to break all barriers and yes airtel is one mode of communication by way of cell, internet etc.And if Airtel can push a social message across while advertising, what the heck let them do so, why complain?

Because they get associated with a 'good cause' without really contributing anything to it. Who benefits? The barbed wired countries? No, in my opinion. Airtel acquires a good image just by appropriate a situation with which they have nothing to do and probably they care very little! In other words the ad is not authentic.

Most of them arent anyway! If only the products were just like those in the ads. I would have built my home with Ambuja Cements ( even a demolition ball cant do damage! ) and perhaps would have had a harem of my own just by using AXE deodorants

no offence, just wanted to make a point thats all

The difference I am pointing out is when organizations pick up social causes and make them their own just for corporate image boost and not just exaggerating the features or silly gimmicks like Axe does.

... Just wondering. Are there even a small percent of people who actually believe ads like those ( fairness creams, AXE, etc etc the list is endless )? I believe there might be, and its not a happy thought....

Yes I can see where you are coming from - and I agree to your point too. The only difference I have is that the Airtel message is perhaps a little more generic - its just an "always true statement"...

I met a young lad while trekking through Kuari Pass (horseman actually). He must be 18 tall and dark and was using 'Fair and Handsome'. I told him (in my teacher mode, I teach kids that big) he is anyway handsome and he doesn't need it.

But didn't you see from the discussion here that Airtel succeeded well in acquiring a goody goody image through that ad with many? Only a few people will question it.

But why present an always true statement by an analogy that almost everyone saw as what they intended it to be?

mridula - I have to agree with you re Airtel - re-read my Post 30.This is what I'm saying - a great clip 'without the advertising'.
Yes, unfortunately there are people who believe ads - is that the Axe ad where you run down the beach and all the girls chase you, Bigzero?? children are particularly susceptible to advertising and believe it as gospel truth until schools or parents educate them and they become wiser.

But myself and countless others were touched by the ad without being very cynical about it and I still continue to use my Cell One connection even today.

I see your point. For me it also becomes an academic matter And then another corporate comes along and uses the same technique and those who study such stuff say soon there is no cause left that is not a pet baby of a corporation without really contributing it. So that is where my argument coming from. Thanks for listening.
