Absolutely, ebby and if it wasn't advertising, would be brilliant for showing all over the world wherever racial discrimination, persecution etc. goes on.

Darn, two people beat me to that AirTel ad with the two kids and the football and the barb wire fence.
It was the first thing I saw when I turned on the TV in my hotel room my first night in Bombay, fresh from the airport. And I almost cried. Probably more from just being tired and overwhelmed and such, but still, the ad was pretty powerful. On the other end of the spectrum, I also like the one for microwave ovens (I think?) with Kajol where her fake family (not Ajay Devgan and their real kid) is mentioning exotic things they know are "IMPOSSIBLE!" to have for dinner, and yet Kajol manages to whip them up using her handy dandy microwave. No idea why I like this, considering it's the sort of ad I hate in the states. Maybe I just like Kajol. |

Haven't seen it here at all..one thing that intrigues me there's an ad with Aishwyara Bachan (I think it's for shampoo or cream) and her eyes are incredibly blue. In other ads they are more greyish. What colour are they really?

Mridula, I wouldnt go so far in the airtel case since all they did was to communicate a very basic message - "if only people talked more". And sure they did show a border and two kids ( what language were they speaking. arabic?) - and one is immediately tempted to think of israel & palestine - but they surely didnt go after any specific socail political issue for their benefit.
I havent read that book - but In this case I will give the benefit of doubt to Airtel. And at the end of the day, what lingers in the mind is the message and not specifically the company itself. |

I know this is open to interpretation but I stick to mine
and I know you will to yours. But hey that is what is called diversity of opinions! I hope I stated my disagreement politely?Last edited by mridula : Feb 25th, 2008 at 11:54. Reason: typo, typo and typo |

But I like Amul ads because of its grassroots involvement with milkmen and women, they have earned the right to use such messages. Again only my opinion.

I love the music in one of those Amul ads where it is very Rajasthani village scenes. Airtel's ad - when it first came on I had no idea what it was advertising, I thought what a great ad for tolerance and breaking the barriers - then the word Airtel came at the end. I felt kind of disappointed at that point. The ad itself makes me think of India-Pakistan or some areas in Africa. Next time I'll take another look and see if it is more 'specific' but I don't think so.
