new one- "Rising Elephant."
got it for Cmas, but have only skimmed it.
tells in plain lingo why India's kicking @ss economicswise, and why it should keep on doing so. Gonna start reading it very soon!

This is not a book, but those IMers currently in India would do well to pick up the Jan-Feb. anniversary issue of the magazine "Travel Plus", published by the India Today group. The issue actually comprises four magazines, each dealing on the North, East, West and South, respectively. The photographs are of a high quality and the information provided quite useful. All this for a paltry price of Rs.50/- !! A steal!

The question wasn't about books on India and this thread is too long for me to check if it hasn't been brought up yet but a search comes up with nothing, anyway:
To read up on India & a great read while you're there just to appreciate the place more, may I suggest A.L. Basham's *The Wonder That Was India*, readily available there, an extensive study of India before the arrival of the Muslims.

I suppose *Voyage au bout de la nuit* by Louis Ferdinand Celine
http://www.alalettre.com/celine-voyage.htm
and
*Zen And The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance* By Robert M Pirsig
http://bonigv.tripod.com/toc.htm ,
respectively.
The latter has a follow-up called *Lila* I think which is supposed to be pretty bad.

finished India Unbound by Gurcharan Das- Great book, quite impressed, though sometimes he drags and loses focus. would have been even better if he could balance his views a bit.

halfway into Arabian Nights now. delightful stuff. nothing better to put you on an escapist trip. this is what storytelling is all about.
