Books I'd take to a desert island:
Don Quixote ~ Miguel de Cervantes The Golden Compass ~ Philip Pullman Teach Yourself Hindi Script (I've been meaning to find the time. . .) a book on yoga (what better place to further my practice) Le temps des amours ~ Marcel Pagnol *These books and my current favourites are not one and the same, although there is some crossover. Still, it is a deserted island and I'd pick to satisfy my mind, body and spirit. . . ![]() |

Books I'd take to a deserted island:
1. ‘The Brothers Karamazov’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky (First choice for re-read.) 2. ‘War and Peace’ by Leo Tolstoy (want to read this one soon, if not on deserted island , defiantly during my holidays in India) 3. ‘The First Man’ by Albert Camus (re-read. I read this one long time back ) 4. ‘Grapes of Wrath’ by Steinback (re-read) 5.‘Catch 22’ (this one I can re-read anytime from any page) |

My favorite read this past winter:
'A Suitable Boy' by Vikram Seth favorite re-read was 'Son of the Circus' by John Irving and I'm with Snain on 'Catch 22'; it is probably the novel I've re-read the most times. |

This is such a hard question! I answer YES to everyone's choices...but then, how to narrow it down to only 5 books! And then, what about all the fabulous books out there I haven'T read yet?
If I really had to only take 5 books with me somewhere, I guess it would be something to read that has multiple layers to it, so that every time you read it you get a different message. And then, each book would need to be at least 2000 pages long. I decided that I will only move to a desert island if there is a library....or perhaps amazon.com there. |
