You should watch it!! I thought it was A LOT better than Om Shanti Om, and the music was really nice as well.

A friend gave me a copy of 'Gangster'. It is a movie that is very good but not quite on the level of the movies you list above. The actress in the lead role is sensational, Kangana Ranaul. It is a bit of a thriller with some interesting twists in the story. It takes place in Seoul and shot exceptionally well.

Don't know if this one has been mentioned before - 'Baghban' with Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini along with Salman Khan and Mahima Choudary. I watched it on DVD last night and really enjoyed it. However, it got 'stuck' just after Raj Malhotra (Amitabh) retired and didn't seem to be able to start again until he and his wife Pooja were living in separate houses with two of their sons. If someone can fill me in what happened at that point I would be most grateful. Also I missed out on working out who Salman Khan really was - he became the favoured 'son' after the others let them down. The DVD was purely Hindi, no English subtitles, so the detail of this was difficult for me to work out! Managed to follow most of the story and thought wonderful acting by Amitabh and Hema.

{at the risk of this looking like a thread-hijack...}
Has anyone seen the movie Gangajaal and, do you know where I can obtain a copy of the movie ? I haven't been able to find it here in Australia. My brother gave me a copy of the movie (on VCD) but it has no sub-titles, so aside from understanding a small portion of the language (mostly the offensive words), it makes little sense. Cheers Zoltan

Salman was adopted - I think (from memory) he was a shoe-shine boy that Amitabh had paid for an education for when he was a child. The reason that Amitabh and Hema were living separately, was that he had expected that his sons would look after them after he retired (no superannuation or the like). That wasn't quite what the sons had expected! From memory it was the daughters-in-law who came up with the plot of splitting them up. It was really to force them to not rely on the sons - they thought that the couple would not put up with having to live separately.

After watching 'Jab we met', I felt there were two directors, one for the first half -who was excelent- and the the one for the second half was his assistant's chela's chela.
I would say Om Shanti Om was better, except Shashank bhai does not seem to like it, as he seems to subtly hint, now and then. Watched Sarkar Raj, DVD courtesy local Indian grocery store, and found it slick. A bit more depressing than Sarkar and less entertaining than Company. But some unexpected twists in the tale. Excellent acting by all. I would watch it again though, on a better 'print'. |

Ah, thank you Vireya - now it all makes sense! And as the daughters'-in-law suspected they couldn't live apart but the outcome was to the detriment of the sons! I think the movie must have been heavily sponsored by Tata and ICICI Bank - much camera work on Pooja making Tata tea for Raj, and Raj worked in that bank - a lot of shots of the name there! In spite of these obvious advertisings (also the car was named) I thought it an excellent movie.
Zoltan - I think when you come to India you will find a DVD of that movie, if you haven't found it before in Oz. DVD's vary in price - I paid 199r. for mine. |
