and another thing, about the ratings, to rate its top 250 movies IMDB doesn't count each and every vote. They only count the votes of users who are regular contributors, and have already spent a specific time on site and have rated a specific number of movies.
According to my IMDB which I just checked to see if this was true, it has not cracked the top 250. In fact, it got a very mediocre review by the Top 1000 reviewers on the site which is a good indication for most movies about its quality. Occassionally, I've found the Top 1000 to be off according to my tastes, but, not that far off. Could this rating be for Indian movies only?

What? Nobody voted for Goal?
Where are the football fans out there?

Oh, I just bought the DVD for John Abraham's bare chest scenes and the football jersey included in the box. OK, I'm shallow.

Cheers!

Just watched Jodhaa Akbar this week, LOVED IT! OK, so it's not historically accurate, but what do I know? I love the costumes, jewelry and the eye candies

Told you I'm shallow!

Cheers!

For a change from typical Bollywood Masala, some of you may like Flavors:

I agree to that, so that last week at Panaji, loved the costumes, colors, as you said eye candies. However I thought the Director himself lacked Direction, he was confused between a historical and a love story..

I have seen grown men moved to tears after watching this movie. If you are a parent, you cannot possibly miss this one.

The 1996 film "Fire" directed by Deepa Mehta. I watched it in a cinema on Anna Salai in Chennai in about 1999 and it had a big effect on me (haven't watched it since):

Chupke Chupke ( Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachhan, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bachhan) is one of my favourite classic commedy films.

"Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" is brilliant. Leaves you feeling sad but it's a touching story even with the strong political overtones.

Colin,

This film is part of a trilogy by this director. Fire, Earth, Water. IMO, Water is the latest one and the best one. I have seen all 3 and think Deepa Mehta is an outstanding director. These are not Bollywood movies. Mehta lives in Canada and is outside the Bollywood tradition.

While I enjoy watching some of the Bollywood productions, it is a played out stereotype that has little reward outside India and really holds back a host of talented, actors, directors, and, producers, who could make world class cinema. This preoccupation with singing and dancing in the midst of any kind of film borders on the absurd. But, then again, India borders on the absurd, no?
