English, August - the film

Has anybody seen the film of "English, August" based on the eponymous book by Upamanyu Chatterjee? I just finished reading the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Doing a google on reviews I see it was made into a film. Hence my query. And for those of you have seen it, what did you think of the location of the fictitious town of Madna which I believe was shot in Vizir?

hey yyam...

i've watched english august - quite sometime ago.
enjoyed it throughly - a remarkably well made film - sans drama and theatrics. one of the better films of rahul bose.
tried reading the book - upamanyu chatterjee is a tad tough to get through - am yet to complete it

googled and oogled but couldnt find a suitable link to post for you...
nontheless - hope this helps

english august dvd

and just for your reading inerest...
a directors introduction

will try and find out where it is available online for you to buy and/or download - gimme a couple of days.

i think it'd have been available in musicworld on park street!

Have both read and seen English, August. I loved the book, and the film was not far behind. I've yet to read Chatterjee's sequel, "Mammaries of the Welfare State" - haven't read the best reviews though.
The last time I checked Benegal's blog, there was talk of an imminent dvd release. As far as I can tell though, that doesn't seem to have come to fruition.
I've tried the torrent world - surprisingly, nothing there either. Good luck finding the film.

Mammaries of the Welfare state is readable, but I enjoyed August better.

The Last Burden, liked least of all.
