Exclamation "East of the river Ganges"

A world style album from Kumba Mela experiment with the title
"East of the river Ganges" was released during November 2001 under the label of Dragonfly records!!!
Inspired by the awesome gathering of holy men on river Ganges, the album...as they say...was originally meant to be a soundtrack to a documentary being made on the festival!!!
Anyway...according to my opinion, excellent job...mellow indy tunes in combination with Youth's inspiration on musica electronica.....gave to us an awesome music experience!
Highly reccomended.....one the few cds that I will take with me during my first trip to India
Have fun

Here is a link for those wishing to check this out.

There is some Real Audio on the site, and it sounds pretty cools.

Thanks for the review Iasis.

I would also suggest a spoken word album called "City of Light" by Bill Laswell. Lori Carson, the singer from the Golden Palominos does some spoken word over ambient/background chants from the Ganges. Also very cool.

Cheers
Mike

The Ganges connection

This thread gives me the chance to plug one of my favourite albums of all time

A Meeting by the River by Ry Cooder and V M Bhatt
(Water Lily Acoustics WLA-CS-29 CD)
36th Annual Grammy Award Winner

It's a timeless and beautiful album produced by two master musicians who had only just met! The music is totally improvised, a key element in blues and Indian classical music and you can practically hear these two guys listening to each other. The other musicians on the album are Sukvinder Singh Namdhari on tabla and Ry Cooder's son Joachim on dumbek.

Check out the long " Ganges Delta Blues" track where these two guitar players weave around each others musical lines to produce some sublime "raga-blues".

I included this album in my Desert Island top ten but if I could only have one disc this would be it. Lying in the shade of a coconut palm with the sea lapping gently on the beach (well, that's how we all picture a desert island) and listening to this disc would be perfect.

Available in all GOOD record shops. In the Indian Sub-continent I've seen it in Pushkar and Pokhara.

Good listening
