I agree and will be looking forward to parts 3 & 4.

I can not however come to terms with the well off ignoring the fact that people do in fact still starve to death and have an enormous struggle. The difference in the have and havenots is large and getting greater.

We just returned after three months on our last trip and I seemed to notice a change in attitude to us - maybe it was just me.

I will however go back. It is an amazing country and people.

I only caught the 1st episode, fell asleep before the second one came on and was at the gym during the 3rd one! It's not out on DVD yet, but if it is, it will be released by the Germans who made it at http://www.zdf-enterprises.de/home.1.htm

Contemporary documentaries like this, on such topics like India, are a waste of money for me because it'll be outdated by 5 years time because of the speed the country is changing at. I'd love to waste my money on this documentary though.

India Reborn DVD?

I understand that the India Reborn series will be out on DVD sometime in May.
I saw the first two episodes and agree, it's beautifully shot, I can't wait to order the DVD.

Good day John & Welcome to IM.

Thanks for that info.

Part 3 was about Bollywood and also the extravagant Arranged weddings amongst the very wealthy.I am not much of a bollywood fan But still
found it interesting. The part about the weddings was for me was quite fascinating although sickening
to see the lengths the rich go to,Basically to Flaunt their Wealth.

Part 4 for me was extremely Interesting, about the
farmers and Food. The fast food explosion in India
is Full steam ahead.

I have yet to see Michael Woods "Story of India"
which I believe is also very good, hopefully I'll
get to watch this soon.

India Reborn is contemporary while Story of India is historical from the beginning of the Indus civilisation to the exit fo the British.

You're in for a treat with the Story of India.

I saw most of that one when I was in India (Discovery Channel) at the end of last year. I thought it was very good; I hope you get to see it soon. It was on TV in the US in January.

not so impressed

I just watched the first two parts of this doc on CBC this evening and I can't say I was overwhelmed. The stories were interesting, no doubt, and I am always happy to see India-specific programming on TV (especially in North America), but there wasn't much truly original or innovative with the topics covered or the way in which India's dilemmas were presented. It would be interesting to get someone's perspective who didn't have much exposure to Indian topics beforehand to see if they found it an interesting introduction, but I considered it pretty standard fare.

Sorry to rain on the parade of anyone who really enjoyed this doc, but personally I thought Discovery Atlas India was a far superior take on many of the same themes.

Anyone else relate?

Cheers.

I watched it and thought it was OK. The first episode was better than the second in my opinion, but that maybe just because I wanted to punch the entitled bride with the multi-million dollar wedding.

It really only managed to skim the surface and present an image of India not much different from what you'd see in any newspaper. Perhaps it's indicative of the fact that India is somewhat indescribable, at least in a four hour documentary.

Laloo is always worth the price of admission in my books. He really cracks me up. Two of my least favourite things in India are Bollywood & Weddings - enough said about the second hour.

Bollywood is pretty dull, but the weddings aren't that bad if there's alcohol.

Actually Bollywood wouldn't be that bad without alcohol.
