I've had alot of strange experiences in India, but here is 1 I had in Varanasiin 1991.
I was staying at the Shanti of Shakti Hotel by the burning ghats and me and a couple from Australia and another person from I don't remember where were on the roof sitting at a table smoking and eating bananas. When a bunch of monkeys appeared on the wall separating us from the building next door. The australian's were like "Oh look at the cute monkey's", so they threw some banana peels over the wall for the monkey's. About 2 minutes later a bunch of monkey's appeared on the wall and saw the banana's sitting on the table and then charged at us very agressively! We all freaked out and started running. The Australians had the 1 room on the roof and ran into that. I had a room on the first floor and started running down the stairs in a total panic. As a monkey was chasing me I went down 1 flight of stairs and the monkey was still behind me with I swear to god a banana in his mouth and his 2 fangs hanging out over the banana! I thought for sure he was going to jump on me and start gnawing away at me! After maybe 2 flights of stairs he was no longer following me! I made it down to the first floor and went into the reception office where some foreigners were checking in and told the manager that there were monkeys on the roof attacking people. And he made some comment to the people checking in about drug's. Basically saying that I was stoned and hallucinating it! Well I went to my room and packed as I had a train to Calcutta soon. So the moral of the story is don't feed the monkey's in Varanasi! ![]() |
