I really like these Indian charts too - they're fascinating. Thanks for sharing! Couldn't help but laugh at some of your comments - Mr. ploink came to see what' so funny.

What a great set, thanks for uploading those. As I'm still trying to learn the devanagari characters, before making a start on learning Hindi, it's useful to see the English phonetic characters alongside on some of them.

You're welcome. It was a full afternoon's project to take pictures of these. We have others but they're not as good.

I regularly rotate these charts on the bathroom wall.

Sometimes conjunct constonants are used in the posters and they throw me off.... but I like to practice what I can.

I have a set of these charts as well and I love them! A book that might interest you is: S. Rao (ed) et. al.,An Ideal Boy, Charts from India.
See: http://www.amazon.com/Ideal-Boy-Char.../dp/1899235833

There seems to be a difference between the North and the South in the style of the charts. In the South a main printing centre is Sivakasi, near Madurai.

Kids resources are great when I'm struggling with a new language, I used to have a Welsh alphabet poster "Afal, Balwyn, Cloc &c."

One day I aspire to speak a foreign language as well as a 3 year old, though they'd probably place less emphasis on the ability to order beer!

Ended up ordering a copy of An Ideal Boy: Charts from India too. Oh dear.
I remember seeing the book, might have been in Delhi...
I love books, and reading, and India, and I love shopping for books in India (and reading about India).

I have An Ideal Boy. John bought it for one of my birthdays. It's what brought my notice to Indian charts. This book is good at explaining things, I think. It's been a while since I've looked at it.... Okay, guess that's what I'll read today.

Maybe it's because I'm a children's librarian that I like educational materials for kids, especially foreign language and non-fiction. Much of what's published for kids here in the US is just so that they can get enough info to write a report, so the books are merely adequate. However, there are some that are above average. DK produces a lot that's very good for kids and I they've carried it over into what they do for adults.

How do I get a hold of the moderator for this forum? It's been brought to my attention that mispelled a word. In the title, I wrote "DK Hindi Egnlish Visual Bilingual Dictionary" instead of "DK Hindi English Visual Bilingual Dictionary". It was a typo in the word English. Can this be fixed or is it going to remain "Egnlish" forever? Thanks.

Nick is usually around. I didn't notice the error until I ran a search on it and came up with a blank..
