Discovery Channel--Colours of India--Help Wanted

While I was in India I watched a few episodes of a series called the Colours of India on the Discovery Channel--they were excellent. I came home thinking I'd buy the series as a souvenir of my trip. Unfortunately, I've gotten nowhere with the Discovery Network so far. I'm wondering if an IM'er might help me out by trying to find out how to buy the DVD's for the series.

If I can buy the series from here in Canada it would be great. If I can't, and someone in India can buy them and ship them to me, I'd be very grateful. Of course I'm prepared to pay you for them.

Any information I can get will be much appreciated.

Hey Mapleleaf,

I may not be the most knowledgeable person about this, was waiting for members in India to answer, but seeing as they didn't, here I am with my lot of assumptions.

I did some checking, both on public and pro sites. From what I can tell, the show has not been published in DVD form yet, in any country.

That is likely to be because the show is either still in its 1st airing on the Discovery Network India, or has stopped airing for less than 6 months (if memory serves - it's been a while since that knowledge was part of my job). Or is scheduled to air on the US Discovery network - in which case you'd have to wait 3 to 6 months after the end of that airing.

The show has been successful locally, helping make Discovery the 1st English-speaking network in India in the 1st quarter of 2007. So I'm comfident that there will be a DVD edition.

Whet it's released you'll be able to purchase it from the Discovery online shop. They do ship to Canada. I would suggest you keep checking regularly.

Not sure that helps...
Take care.

You might also want to find/contact the production house for the series and ask them directly. Often a Discovery series will only go into a dvd 'production run' and thus make it to their 'shop' -if it's ratings are sufficient enought to make it a profitable venture ...... or after the series has run it's course on TV - similar to a movie that goes to dvd after it's theater draw has run dry.

Gautam : just to save Mapleleaf some work, I already did what you suggest. The DVD is not on sale at the online shop.

As for the prod company, their name is not indicated in the data I found. So, if a member based in India watches the show, it would be great if s/he could take down the production company name and post it here. (That's the name at the very end of the end credits, after the date and the "Discovery" mention).

I did read your first post where you advised to check the online store. I meant that i also agree with you that the best way is to check online.

A quick note that might be of some help -- the Internet Movie Database doesn't turn up ANYTHING for "Colors of India". Popular television series (in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc) will usually show up. Which makes me think this is much more "below the radar" than it has to be to get a major DVD release.

Unfortunately...

The Opoponax : this is because Colors of India is one of a few early attempts at producing & broadcasting local content aimed specifically at Indian audiences. India is the primary territory for this show, which is unusual. IMDB is a lot slower in indexing those non-US / UK releases.
It may imply that if there's a DVD release, it'll happen in India first. Too early to tell, as this show is kind of a prototype.

Thanks for getting on board. Although we talk all the time about it being a 'small world', it's at times like this that we realize it's still pretty big!

I will keep checking on the Discovery Network website--to see if it turns up. For those of you who haven't watched it, I thought what I saw was great--a program on the Ganges; one on tigers and another profiling a Maharajah.....

I knew you guys could help....................
