Desi torrents and file sharing

Im not sure how the staff here feels about file sharing and if it is frowned upon I completely understand.

But for those of you who do file share, p2p, etc.. There is a great website called Desitorrents.com

They have a ton of moives, tv shows/movies, music etc. Check em out. I have found alot of great rare religous bhajans there and some great relgious movies like jyotirlinga yatra etc.

Edit: It seems it is now invite only, i do have 10 invites so if you have hindi files to share and are serious just let me know and ill pm you an invite.

File sharing is a mechanism where by one can swap media or any other files between different people for free (songs , movies, documents etc). Considered illegal in essence but a stark reality staring the commercial world in its face.

There's also BWTorrents, which offers about the same features. It is also by invitation only, unfortunately.

There is nothing illegal about file sharing in itself --- except that, of course, what most people want to share is copyright material that they 'should' be paying money for.

IndiaMike.com can't be seen to condone copyright violation: so please don't use this site to refer to specific movies, music, etc. I guess there's plenty of places on the net for that kind of chat.

A site that I use a lot for techie broadband stuff in India is www.vinuthomas.com . They have lounge areas as well as the technical stuff, and I suspect you guys might find good information on filesharing sites (and how to technically get the best out of them) there

Depends what you d/l.

Never had a virus from an amp3 or avi. If you are d/l programs or any other file that can execute instructions then yo are asking for trouble.

Ask for the legal aspect. When the major UK distributor of bollywood flicks starts putting DVDs out that do not suffer dvd rot after a few months then I may consider paying for DVDs (like I used to until I got fed up with the dodgy DVD media that Eros continued to use) until then I will use torrent sites.

i have never got any virus from using various torrent sites. i think file sharing is great. who never made mix tapes for their friends, or recorded a TV show or movie to share with friends and family? why is file sharing on over the internet any different? it is SHARING, not stealing, and as far as i can remember sharing is legal.

pm me if you want invites to desitorrents. it is the best place for indian music and movies.

Rakesh.. this is the geek speak sub thread and it is about India. While the forum is mainly on India travel, bollywood and music remain a powerful identity and invite to India for the world outside.

Desitorrents is good for music but BWTorrents rules the day when it comes to movies. The users at BWTorrents tend to share (seed) more so you can download a movie in an hour or so with a good broadband connection.
