Chetan Bhagat's books & movie

Chetan Bhagat's second book One Night @ The Call Center, (published in 2005) was made into a movie called "Hello..." which just released in January, I think. Anyone seen the movie? If so, what do you think of it? I've read the book and think it could be a fun movie in a setting I'm not used to seeing.

Both of his books [the first being Five Point Someone pub. 2004] have been incredibly successful in India.

If you've read his books, what do you think of them? Even with the author's obvious agenda and Americans-are-stupid bias, I think the second one is much better than the first. I didn't really like that one; maybe I've just already heard too many IIT stories.

Movie Hello is not yet released & is still under production. According to a report in a newspaper some days back the shooting is still going on & the release date is being constantly pushed behind. It also mentioned that the writer is not happy with the producer who bought the rights since he is delaying the project & he thinks had he sold to some other producer the movie would have released by now.

I have read both the books. In fact these are the only fiction books I have read. It happened that I was visiting Crossword (Kemps Corner, Mumbai) Chetan Bhagat was there launching his book One night @ call center. He read some pages from his book & there was this question answer session. I purchased the book since it was costing less than Rs. 100 & that also with his signature. I liked reading the book so much that after some days I bought his first book & finished reading it within 3 - 4 days. For me both the books are equally good.

Even I am eagerly waiting for release of the movie Hello.

I read One night @ the Call Center - the book left me cold - couldnt really connect . Perhaps I would have appreciated it more if I was younger.. or had worked in a call center?

Left you cold because of the story or the writing? The writing isn't beautiful, and though I don't have the qualifications to relate to the story either (in 20's, work in a call center) I could enjoy the story well enough. It's popularity is intriguing to me. It definitely has a Bollywood vibe to it; feels like it was written to be made into a film. Or written for the same audience. Or evidence that Bollywood is influencing literature. All of these?

Are you telling me that you've never driven backwards on mere iron rods suspended in air?? Hmm, and I was looking forward to that in Hyderabad. Dashed!
