Chasing Rainbows in Chennai

Hi everyone. I love Chennai and over the last few years have spent about eighteen months there. I first visited in 1997 and really liked the place. Since then I kind of fell in love with it. In 2003 I had a book published and the official launch was held in the city. So if ever you get bored, get hold of a copy from Landmark, Higginbothams, Odyssey etc (or read a copy for free, off the bookshelf in Broadlands Lodge). You never know, you may even enjoy it! It got to No.3 in Landmarks's bestseller list. Hopefully, it may provide you with a few laughs. "Chasing Rainbows in Chennai": www.zine5.com/chasingrainbows.

(people have neater ways to point to threads; how do they do it?)

Be glad if you could

Its been over two years since this thread was last on the front page of IM. Finally, all copies have been sold or got rid of by any means necessary. What a relief! But if anyone feels like a bit of easy reading then you can now read it here for free: CRIC

Chaising Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows in Chennai is by far the best I think the only travel that really gets to the heart of what it is like to to be a traveller in India. It puts forth a viewpoint sometimes comical that everyone who has spent any time in Triplicane or elsewhere in India can relate to. From the greasy rag that cleans the table in a restaurant that waiters use to the eclectic western wanders and a few things that only Colin has seen but describes in great detail (Like the Body building Gym up some alley in Chennai). This book does not tell you what the best hotel bargain is but Chasing Rainbows is by far the best bargain in traveller reading.
I am waiting for Vol 2 ???

Freenote - Well, that's what it was on the shelf for. Broadlands and that famous courtyard... I remember it well... destined never to return!

Lou - your comments are particularly welcome as they come from someone who was in India way, way back in the early 70s (I think) when I was still at school and would probably have had difficulty finding India on a map.

Yes, a story that does not make for pleasant reading. Not for the weak hearted.

Hi Colin

Any idea where to buy your book in the UK? Checked out Amazon but they say 4-6 weeks to find it.

Anyone coming back to the UK from Chennai soon could pick me up a copy?

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott, even Amazon won't be able to help these days, apart from the used ones that people put on there for sale. I am the owner of the last three copies. But I did see a copy of one being sold on the German site of ebay the other day! Send me a PM and I'll post one to you in Scotland. I'm in the UK now for a few more weeks so its not a problem (apart from the mail being slow this time of the year).
