Lightbulb Buying books through net

Has anyone bought books (secondhand/new) through Amazon or eBay from India ?

I was trying to buy a book. The seller says they ship internationally. But the site says it doesn’t ship books to India. Anyone with experience advice please….I’m desperate

Thanks Volga for the help offer I'll try that if everything else is ruled out.....

It was slightly difficult for me with eBay and Amazon (in shipping). Some one asked me to give a local address for shipping in the form and give my India address by email for actuall shipping adress. They said they can ship it to the adress given by me through email. I'm yet to see some indian friends who ordered like this. That is why I posted the question.

I finally odered the book from abebooks.com .There was no bid or any thing. A straingt purchase. They ship directly to my adress in India. It was expensive than eBay and the likes though. The status shows the book is shipped. And the expected delivery date is given as last week of september! I think someone is bringing the book to my home by walking all the way

I've to buy a few more books also.I'm a bit confuced if to order with the same site before I receive my first delivery perfectly.

Has anyone bought from firstandsecond.com ?
Their prices looks OK. It looks like they have every book in their listing. I have gone to mouthshut.com to see the reviews on this people. All the three reviews given there were really bad about them. I'm confuced again

Books Books Books!!!

Beach I've never used the Firstsecond online service but their retail outlet which used to be at Connaught Place was fine. They offered to order me books which they would have within 5 working days.
Their selection of titles was good and the computer section was a godsend for us Westerners
People take note if your looking for computer guides then wait until you get to India a 50 Euro book will cost you 8-10 Euro in India including the CD rom.
These represent a real bargain as we all know how much computer books cost!
For books on India here's a company a friend of mine uses they're reliable and have a good stock of books!!

beach, just a quick note that i used abebooks UK and was very happy with the service. i ordered three books (surprise surprise all on india&pak ) from three different sellers and payed through abebooks but received confirmations from individual sellers and books within 2-3 days (UK inland shipment though).

i ordered from 2 US amazon marketplace sellers to a UK address and was quoted dispatch time of four weeks, for each, for the same postage. one book arrived within 7 days and another - on the 5th week. i wasn't too bothered as i received a refund for the second book - we assumed it lost and the seller told me if i ever receive it i can keep it so i did

so, US-India must take at least twice as US-UK so end of Sept sounds OK. but you may be lucky and receive it earlier as i did. dunno how the US Postal service works...

PS should you wish to continue with abebooks and to order from the UK sellers please feel free to ask me for a shipping address and i then re-post it to you by air, and not as expensive as they will quote you. sometimes i think booksellers get their margins on the p&p rather than book sales: eg amazon standard 1st class UK charge is GBP2.75 while it may cost less than GBP1 for actual postage!

Beach,

I have ordered from amazon.co.uk and they do ship to India through Parcel Force. The books are here in 7 days and you don't pay any customs duties. THe shipping cost is expensive, so it is best to wait until you need several books and then order.

I did try Firstandsecond.com but the staff no next to nothing about publishers/imprints/editions and their service is slow and clumsy.

For books on India I recommend Manohar Books in Delhi, also online at manoharbooks.com.

amazon.com/co.uk will ship books to India, there are marketing restrictions on other mercahndise.

Let me take this opportunity to say how much I enjoy your posts!
