Also in Delhi - Arayan Books - Pooja Apts. Ansari Road N. Delhi

and there is also a Picadilly Books at 64 Shankar Market - Circle One - They have the absolute motherload of books especially spiritual stuff and sanskrit dictionaries. Actually I've never been to other location

friendsofbooks.com

My friend Nick and I have become members of www.friendsofbooks.com
It is (according to their tag line), a "library that delivers".So we make lists on their website and they send books home (and to N's office)cheers!

I've had no luck so far in finding inexpensive second hand book sellers that stock a lot of fiction, pretty much all of the many bookshops I found in Old Delhi seemed to sell text books only.

I've seen several mentions of this second hand book market, but they are all very years old. Is it a good source of western novels - detective fiction, horror, thrillers that sort of thing? If so, what time does it get going in the morning? I'll be visiting in May and while I can't imagine browsing in the heat of the say, it might be possible early in the morning.

That looks like a great service, I wish I'd know about it before.

any bookstore in Delhi or Hyderabad that specializes in current affairs and politics? it would be interesting to find a bookstore that offers unique and rare books ranging from current president of Paraguay to minority oppression in Myanmar?
