I've had no luck so far in finding inexpensive second hand book sellers that stock a lot of fiction, pretty much all of the many bookshops I found in Old Delhi seemed to sell text books only.

I've seen several mentions of this second hand book market, but they are all very years old. Is it a good source of western novels - detective fiction, horror, thrillers that sort of thing? If so, what time does it get going in the morning? I'll be visiting in May and while I can't imagine browsing in the heat of the say, it might be possible early in the morning.

That looks like a great service, I wish I'd know about it before.

any bookstore in Delhi or Hyderabad that specializes in current affairs and politics? it would be interesting to find a bookstore that offers unique and rare books ranging from current president of Paraguay to minority oppression in Myanmar?
On the strength of my scanty experience as a onetime visitor, I'd like to recommend Trivandrum's Modern Book Centre. Quoting from my earlier travel report: "This bookshop has managed to cram an impressive assortment of English-language books into an impressively narrow building. The service was quite efficient and friendly; no sooner had I asked about Kerala writers than a stack of books was piled high before me on a table, with recommendations to follow."
I recently tried Dial A book service in NCR.. It's quite nice.. they locate the book you want and deliver it on your door step.. very handy..
Otherwise I prefer to use indiaplaza.in.. minimum 25% discount on books for book club members..
Not sure, if Premier is still open in Bangalore.. It used to be be amazing. And of course Strand Book Stall in Bangalore.

It's 5 star ... But the bookshop inside the Imperial Hotel, New Delhi, has a wonderful and relatively large selection and beautiful "coffee table" and collectors books. Beautiful books for gifts.
