book fair calcutta

I went to this 3 (?) week long event in February at the Maidan this year. Except for the inconvenience of pat downs and grumpy looking soldiers (why do Indian cops and soldiers look so dour? They look constipated and angry - unlike Thai cops who actually smile sometimes) it was excellent.

I bought new and used books on a large variety of subjects - sex, travel, religion, art, psychology. Funny, Indians seem to read a lot about sex. Maybe it's because most aren't getting any! I remember buying a lingerie creating book at the book kiosk at the tourist office in Srinagar - I actually did buy it to create some model garments but I have a hunch it was for Indians a wanking magazine.

Negligible entrance fee for the Book Fair though there were queues to buy tickets. The easiest way is to get tickets is to buy them in packest of three (?) at low traffic times from the subway cashier.
