Book about the Marathi empire

I'm looking for a good historical book, about the Marathi empire.

Can anyone please give me recommendations?

Just read the Laird book on Shivaji. Surprised anyone read it but it does tell us the lack of substantive sources of even recent historical knowledge..

Laine not Laird (brain lapse). Its Oxford press & unfortunately the target of some misguided & politically strange nationalist attacks. It just points out the obvious that in the absence of hard info people just make things up for their own distinct purposes. Makes me steam thinking that the quiet Bandarkar Institute was attacked and damaged in this slimy political football..

The Laine book may not be sold in India because its sensitive. Oxford Press, if I recall..
