Bollywood the Show: help!

Hello!!!

This week I have watched twice the musical "Bollywood the Show" performed in Barcelona after months of success in several cities around the world.

I have to say that the show is fantastic, full of colour and energy, and mixes traditional music with some of the Bollywood hits of the present. The director of the choreography is the one of Lagaan, and the music has been made by those of Dhoom, so the performance is simply brilliant!

But I need some help...

In the show there are some songs that are not included in the official CD of the performance. These are songs from some of the most popular Bollywood films of the last years (Dhoom, Tara Rum Pum, Kal Ho Naa Ho, etc), and fortunately I have been able to recognise all of them... except ONE!!! and this is why I appeal to your help!!! (because I liked it a lot).

Here are some clues: it is a song in which the dancers have something similar to a small stick in their hands, and while they dance they hit the sticks ones with the others (it seems a traditional dance, but with a modern treatment). I do not know if it can help, but this dance takes place when the two main characters of the story get married. I think I have seen this dance in a film, but I do not remember it!!!

So... you ... Bollywood fans... could you help me to identify it (the film, the song... whatever)?

Thank you!!!

Hi there - sounds like a cool musical. Can it come to NY please ?

Was it just women dancing with the sticks? If so it's a Garba dance, if men and women it's Dandiya Raas. At least that's my understanding from my dance teacher.

Was it by any chance Dola Dola from Bride and Prejudice?

That one was pretty popular - but it sounds like this show has lots of Bollywood hits and B&P wasn't very popular.

I'll keep thinking...but the stick dance sequence is a pretty popular one

Cheers!

Thank foy for the reply!

I´m afraid the song is not Dola Dola from B&P, although you are in the good track because that´s the dance I´m refering to (but the music is not that one)!

It must be a traditional dance that appears in many many films, so we´ll have to find the right one!!!

Bye!

Sorry Setuniket, but this is not THE SONG (although it fits some of the hints, as you say...).

As for the hindi version Pretty Woman, it is a good song and video but of course it is not THE SONG (no sticks in it! ha ha).

Thank you everybody and keep on thinking!!!

I think there is a part of a song/dance in KHNH at the wedding where they dance with those sticks, but it's not on that YouTube video.

If you don't get an answer here, you could try posting on the Naach-Gaana board at the forum at Bollywhat.com, a Bollywood (and other Indian movie) discussion forum.

The dance is called 'Dandiya'....the first 5 letters i.e DANDI mean , literally a 'stick'

Nope this would not help.... everytime someone gets married in a bollywood movie there is a song and a dance.... come to think of it..even if they just meet, let alone getting married..

[quote=coleridge;461346]I do not know if it can help, but this dance takes place when the two main characters of the story get married. I think I have seen this dance in a film, but I do not remember it!!![quote]

Actually in the few hundred Hindi movies I've seen, I have seen many production numbers in wedding scenes, but I can only remember one where there is dancing with Dandiya sticks, which is Kal Ho Naa Ho, as mentioned. If OP has seen another one, I think it's something I haven't seen.

Previous YouTube citation didn't include this (short) part of the song, this one does, at 5:30

http://pop.youtube.com/watch?v=3UB3bdSaV_4

so -- see if this is it, you've definitely got your sticks here!

Ha ha!! I will keep that in mind if I receive an unexpected invitation to join in.

Where is this dance from ? Gujurat? I think it's local to a group we have alot of here in the New York/New Jersey area.

Hrmm...Dhol Baaje (http://youtube.com/watch?v=iaZPexT_ffo) came on my ipod today and I thought that might be it (sounds like a good song for some dandiya action), but when I re-watched it on my DVD it is stickless

What about this one... from Ab Ab Laut Chalen? Yehi Hai Pyar (http://youtube.com/watch?v=YqpMv84fId0)

The quest continues...

Hello everybody again!

I have to tell you that the quest is over!!!

I have some good (or bad) news from you!!!

This morning has hapenned to me something unvelievable: I was doing some sightseeing in my city (Barcelona, Spain)and I have found by chance the main dancer of the show (an excellent guy, by the way). We have been talking for more than half an hour and among other things I have asked him about THE SONG.

He has told me that the song is NOT from any film, so there is no way to find it (because as I told you it is not included in the official CD).

Anyway we have exchanged mails and told me to send it to me (he must have his means to find it...) as soon as he can.

Thank you everybody for your interest and help!!!

PS - He has told me that they have plans to visit the States. Meanwhile you can get more info about the show in www.bollywoodshow.es.
