It's been brought up before. I was thinking of hosting a little get-together given any interest and somewhat more moderately given the event's prices, I think Cyberhippie also had an interest. More like beer + pizza if you ask me. Anyway I was waiting for the date to draw closer then make a swift announcement, keep an eye on here all of you who are interested.
The A'dam fraction, <Ow come to think of it the organizers are adamant NOT to have it fall under the name of Bollywood as such. With such prices however... well whatever.>

Nice of you to share information, but will you please post in the correct forum ?
This thread, originally in the "Trekking and Mountaineering" forum (I don't suppose the Bollywood stars are trekking up to Amsterdam !), is now moved to the correct forum.

OK li'l update: The organization's site still pretty much sucks, I'm sad to say. No clear indication of the full program yet as far as I can see, other than the massively expensive events at Arena stadium. (There is an overview of the nominees however.) There's supposed to be stuff going on at Tuschinski movie theater too but no data on it. Will keep an eye on it or start calling around as the date draws nearer. I would expect there'd be many side-events going on in the margins.
What should interest some fans is the announcement of a Quote:
Anyway, let's keep each other posted. |

Unfortunately our finances are a bit up in the air at the moment so we can't commit to anything but the cricket match with old star like Vinod Kamli, Aravinda D’silva and Azharuddin (I don't know any of these guys) looks like it could be fun or a movie at the Pathe Tuschinski cinema perhaps!
Anyway lets see somehow I think we'll make it as mrs cyberhippie has already missed two chances to se SRK in the flesh!! ![]() |

I was basically thinking: - Meet up in grungy bar down the center. There's nothing Indian about it but there's plenty a betattooed traveller to make you feel at home if you need to Basically it's a place I like and it's normally not very hard to squat a bigger table, if it should come to that, esp. if we come afternoonish. They got a nice terrace by the canal too. Anyway I don't know much by the way of "Indian bars" (please guys no coffeeshops, not my kind of thing although there's a place opposite it if you need to stock up, and smoking is allowed so np.)- Food: there's two excellent Indian restaurants in the vicinity. Thing is their prices are what you might call medium, not very expensive, certainly not very cheap either and I won't be having a lot of money myself. Moreover they're small and you can forget about showing up with an X nr. of people without reservations, so we'd need to know exactly who will show up. Alternatively there's a pizza place in the area, I know it sounds boring but it's good and friendly and affordable and best of all it's a big place that's mostly used for takeaway so finding a place is never a problem, it might be nice to ring ahead though and give them some indication of how many people we'll be. They're open fairly late too. Other than that eating places abound in the area so it's something you might decide on the spot. - It remains to be seen what other events are hosted around the festival; if normally-priced movies or similar are happening I'd say let's go for that, if not then it would just be a meet-up (or people who want to can just move on to the Arena of course). If we decide that's not worth it then leave it for another day. - Late night if people are up for it we could see if we could go dancing (or people watching) in the Melkweg/Milkyway for instance, you'd have a hard time not to be treated to some Bangramuffin and the likes there. It's not a very cheap place but I could see if I can arrange something, no promises. So -- let me know what you think, all options are open at this point and the central question really remains the festival program that is unclear as yet. I have it in mind to see if there's no Indian culture going on in the Bijlmer pojects kind of area which might turn the thing into a bit of an adventure even!* If any other people plan to attend then please let us know here so we can gauge if there's any interest at all. * --> Come to think of it I only realize just now there's the Surinamese (and Antillean and African) Kwakoe Festival held each year, this year it's from Sat. July 16 till Sunday Aug. 21, weekends only I believe, they're celebrating their 30th anniversary. Too bad the two don't coincide but if this thing falls through it might be a nice alternative occasion for a meet-up! I've never been but it's supposed to be really good, and I'm sure the Surinamese Hindu community participates. Admission is free. |

nb Food: Stupid I didn't think of it before but Surinamese eateries abound of course and are both cheap + heavily India-influenced. I can't think of a good one in the area I was thinking of but there's a very good one near Tuschinski cinema if that's where we're headed.

Latest update:
Amsterdam's Tuschinski cinema will show movies from Fri. 10 thru Sun. 12th of June, at 7 Euros a go or a 3-movie pass for 17 Euros. Cast members will attend at some of the screenings. See http://www.pathe.nl/specials.asp?cat=IIF&bios_id=2 for details + movie titles, there's an English caption too. The way things are going I'm not even sure if I will attend but the prices sound a lot more reasonable anyway. I see a couple of titles at least that have received attention on this forum too I think. Last edited by machadinha : Jun 5th, 2005 at 20:37. |
