Bollywood Music

Dunno, if this has been posted before but while I'm on a late night cheap Korean larger and posting frenzy.....

What everyones favourite Bollywood tunes????

While typing I'm listening to the splendid main theme from Khabi Kushi Khabi Gham.

I put this right up the top of my list with Bachchan's Chal Mere Bhai and (I think it's Lata's) Mere Ne Seemae (scuse the speelung).

As an amusing after thought, I presented my local bar (here in Osaka, Japan) with a compilation Bollywood CD.
Now whenever they play Mere Ne Seemae and Lata starts singing - La la la la la la la la la, followed by the audience clapping, all the bar clientel clap as well.
So, I now have a habit of walking into the bar and singing 'la la la la la la la la' (however many la's) and the clientel all clap me.
Bizarre, the only time in history anyone has ever clapped my singing....

Oh and if anyone can correct my spelling of Mere Ne Seemae, I'd appreciate it!

Cool Bollywood tunes !

There are so many good tunes, particularly from movies of the 70s, that its really difficult to pick and choose.

Lata's song from "Naseeb" is "Mere naseeb mein tu hain ke nahin, tere naseeb mein main hoon ke nahin...."

A.R. Rahman's soundtrack to "Alay Payuthey" in Tamil is sublime. The Hindi remake as "Saathiya" isn't nearly as good.

This is a good spot for me to cry - ooooohhhh I've somehow lost my KHNH soundtrack! And none of the Indian grocers stock CDs, just VCDs and DVDs
Any ideas on how to get one without paying insane shipping costs from Amazon or something?

I have finally gone made and started looking for Bollywood soundtracks to buy before I leave. On my list:

Khakee (have no idea what the film is like, but was listening to the soundtrack in the car and loved it)
Paab (the ONLY Bollywood movie I have watched from the beginning to the end since I was 15)

Nothing to beat the movies and songs of the late 60s and then the 70s !!

The current bastardization(euphemistically called "re-mix") of the golden oldies by so called composers is an insult to the great and truly talented music directors of yesteryears!

You are right Shimla..the re-mix stuff is real BAD and the Videos of the songs is worse

I have always liked "Jagjit Singh" for whatever he sings (mostly gazalas or Punjabi folk songs and some film music).

my next favourite is "Yasudas" a guy from Kerela sings in so many languages, unbeleivable and sings good Hindi..but getting his tracks is very difficult. Recommended to anyone interested in Light melodies.

Bhupen Hazarika has great Hill songs in Assamese, has some songs in Hindi as well. .my most liked is " Haan Aawara hun" (mening "Yes I am a wanderer or vegabond") almost everyone will like it.

Oh Yes! Anyone having any clue of how to get the Song "Tishta Nadi se tu Chanchla, main to hun pahle se manchala" by Yasudas
Any format, I require it very hearly.

And here are two Great! Instrumental Music CDs Recommended for anyone interested in Nature:

An Album called "Call of the Valley" by Hari Prasad Chaurasia(Flute), Shiv Kumar Sharma and one more person.

"Music of the Rivers" by Hari Prasad Chaurasia

The above two are not very heavy in Ragas but very soothing to the ears..and Yes they live upto their title names.

Enjoy

Not at all, volga! I'm no sophisticated music lover, I just like anything that sounds good to my ears; I'm not a connoisseur of music !!
