is this still playing anywhere besides Mumbai?
because it's one of my favorite Bollywood movies, and i would LOVE to see it in the theater (not to mention that, having seen the subtitled version several times, i might actually understand what's going on). but Mumbai isn't on my itinerary this time, sadly. also, byronic, Rocky Horror hasn't been playing continuously or in the same theater. it's just been "around". as have many other movies. in fact, until the past 25 years or so, that's how most movie theaters in the US worked -- they got the new stuff as they happened to get around to it, and also kept old classics in constant rotation. so you could still go see Casablanca in the theater 30 years after it came out, if you looked hard enough for a place that happened to be showing it. |

DDLJ played in Mumbai at a dedicated theater really just as a fluke and to try to set the record. I doubt it's playing anywhere else, except as part of some Bollywood retrospective or festival.

Abhishek has just had a really big run, a long string of recent movies. The Guru is now out on DVD.

The Bolywood movie-going experience
You may well know this, but there is a theatre in Jaipur that plays Bollywood movies, the Raj Mandir Cinema, that is known as the most amazing movie theatre in Asia.
In case you get there tho not to Bombay. I haven't been there (or anyplace in India) yet but I have read about it in several places. I have read that there are colored lights around the screen that flash when a song comes on, and also that various kinds of incense are released from time to time during the film. My hope is that when I go there it will be playing something I'll have seen the week before at home in NY with English subtitles, so I can follow it, otherwise I'll find a plot summary on the Net. |

DDLJ just completed 600 weeks today in maratha mandir... yippie.
Even after all these years, it remains one of my fav. movies. It was released at the time when Shahrukh just popularised the trend of anti-hero in indian cinema. The music scene was getting better but love stories were not really in vogue. It came as a whiff of fresh air and blew everything in its sight. Not to forget the formula it gave to a whole batch of film makers to cash on. Aditya Chopra (the director of this film) still hangs a poster of this film in his office, personally autographed by shahrukh saying something like "This film made me who I am". Sadly just like mr. sippy who couldnt make another "sholay", aditya chopra also couldnt make any film that comes closer to DDLJ in story and execution. While his understudy, Karan johar, (who played a small part of sharukh's buddy in this film) is going great guns and left his fantastic debut film (kuch kuch hota hai) behind. |

I have been there, I saw Amir Khan's debut movie, name escapes me. Great theatre. My wife got tickets on female quota.

Just for the experience, anyone know what the poshest movie theatre is in Mumbai and maybe the price? I've seen several listings, but none of them really say anything useful. Adlabs apparently has chaat served in the lobby! I like that plan and something about recliners as seats you can purchase as well as sofas?? Any help would be awsome...we will be in Mumbai when Om Shanti Om is released and would love to see it on the big screen!!!
