Lemme try

I'm not so good in Urdu, still I'll give it a shot...mostly it will be just translation without going into explaining the meaning..which I'm sure you'll be able to ...

Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
(my God have mercy/ bless us)
Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
Tumse Fariyad Karte Hai Hum Tumse Fariyad Karte Hai Hum
(we pray/request/appeal to you)

Yeh Zameen Aur Yeh Aasman
(this earth and this sky)
Tere Kabze Mein Hai Do Jahan
(Both the world are in your control)
Sab Pe Tu Hi To Hai Mehraban
(Only you are looking after everyone)
Hum Tere Dares Jaye Kahan
( where ew'll go leaving your door)
Tu Hi Sunta Hai Sabki Sada
(Only you listen to everyone's plea)
Tu Hi Rakhta Hai Sab Ka Karam
(only you take care of everyone)

Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
Karam Kijiye Maula Karam Kijiye Maula
( God Keep taking care of us)
Karam Kijiye Maula Karam Kijiye Maula

Bekaso Ko Sahara Mile
(give support to ______ (not clear)
Doobto Ko Kinara Mile
(those who are drowning get to the banks/shore)
Sar Se Toofan Pal Mein Tale
(remove strom from our head in a sceond)
Jo Tera Ek Ishara Mile
(if I get your support)
Tu Kare Jo Meharbaniya
(if you take care of me)
Door Ho Jaye Har Ek Gham
(all the sorrows goes away)

Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam
Jaye Kahan Jaye Tere Dar Ke Siwa Maula
(where do we go but your doorsteps)
Tasteen Kahan Bhayi Tere Ghar Ke Siwa Maula
(not clear)
Is Duniyan Pe Tere Karam Ka Saya Maula
(your blessing is over the world)
Daman Kahan Felaoo Tere Dar Ke Siwa Maula
(where do I spread my cloth???? except your doorstep)
Maula Maula
Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam Mere Maula Karam Ho Karam

There is a room for improvement in this translation, I'm sure someone will do it better..I was loss of words at some points...
Anyone...what Daman called in English....I know what it means but..how to explain it in English????

"Daman" is that part of a Saree which is draped over the shoulder, popularly called "Palloo". Normally, when a woman begs, she spreads this palloo before her, in both her hands, to receive alms, etc.
"Daman Failaanan" is an idiom, meaning "to spread one's palloo", actually meaning "to beg".
In the above verse the woman is begging for The Lord's Blessings, in general.

thanks guys you are brilliant!! such a nice song... the text goes so well with the music.

i was afraid it was some cheesy love song (although I must admit the love songs that i saw in Hindi movies are quite poetic, esp compared with britney spears )

I think just about anything's poetic when compared with Britney Spears' lyrics!

Have just finished watching Lagaan. What a masala!! I don't think I will ever support any cricket team other than India's. That is, if I ever watch cricket again...

I have a bit of a weird question - does anyone know the name of the Bollywood movie which was shot in Canberra, Australia?
It may or may not star Hrithik Roshan.. having a very hard time finding it, even on the net.

Landmarks of canberra are parliament house (looks like a big grassy pyramid with a flag pole sticking out of it) and lake burley griffin..

I think it may be.
That looks terrible though, sometimes it really is better to stick with the usual plot

Have you seen it?

I saw half the movie "Koi Mil Gayaa" ! I ran the two VCD film on my comp.; and only the first VCD opened !! Unfortunately, it hasen't been screened at the theatres in Yangon, yet.

However, I liked whatever I saw, so I do not know why do you call it terrible. Hrithik as the mentally retarded boy was absolutely superb! The story may have been done to the death in Hollywood, but it was a new subject for Bollywood.

Mala you are right, watching the movie on big screen does make a big differance as also the mood with which you go and watch.

say..to watch Bandit Queen when your mood is to watch something which is light and romantic

I am a newbie about indian movie and I have to thank you for the information here.
Unfortunately in Italy is impossible to find this movie (and also indian music)!
And here is my question: in this days my husband is in America for work. My I ask him to buy some DVD there (I understand that it's easiest to find some)? And what's about the region encryption code mentioned by Cyberhippie?

Grazie e ciao :-))

Each region has its own encryption code which makes it impossible to play DVD's bought in one area in a different area. HOWEVER, it is possible to recode your DVD player and though I didn't do it myself (I bought a multi-system DVD player) you can do it yourself. Here is a website that came up on a google search: http://www.home-sight-and-sound.com/...gion-codes.htm

Some of my friends have done the decoding process and they said it was very simple to do.

I ordered some Indian movies from amazon.com. You could have them sent directly to him and save a lot on shipping costs. I highly doubt that he will be able to find any Indian movies or music in ordinary stores...unless he is in an area that has a lot of Indians--and even then, maybe not.

serena, diane is right about the region codes, but if your husband is in the US, he can walk into a radioshack and buy an all region DVD player (cyberhome dvd-ch300) for $ 48.00. It plays all regions (needs to be set, get the player, I'll tell you how it's done).

Hey, I didn't make the original comparison with Britney Spears! Give me Kuch Kuch Hota Hai over Get In the Zone anyday.

Most DVDs that you can pick up at an Indian grocer aren't regionally coded anyway, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, Serena. They would play on just about any DVD player.
