It's a mad, mad, mad world out there
Someone's nutty about money …
Someone's deranged by power…
Someone's cracked with stress…
Someone's unhinged by overwork…
Someone's insanely in love….
It's a mad, mad, mad world out there
And everybody's worried they're going bananas….
Except the Krazzy 4
Because they know they're already Krazzy!

Raja's anger knows no bounds, he'll hit out at the slightest provocation or even without. Intermittent explosive disorder is what the doctors call it. 'Sarphira', is what everybody else does!

Dr Mukherjee is your perfect doc - clean and orderly, not a pin out of place. So what's wrong with that? Obsessive compulsive personality disorder, that's what.

Schizophrenic Gangadhar lives in the past…his mates are Nehru and Gandhi, Tilak and Patel! He's so busy fighting for swaraj and freedom, he's lost his sanity!

Cute Dabboo is everybody's pet. So what if he hasn't spoken for years? So what if he's frightened all the time? So what if he's autistic?

Dr Sonali treats them all. She has faith that all it needs is a little time and lots of patience to make them normal…to make them part of the mad, mad, mad world out there…

But are the Krazzy 4 ready for the world?

And is the world ready for them?

Whee more lovely movie release updates! Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Indizen

Anyone seen Tashan yet? I think I'm going tomorrow night. Is it a good masala flick? Soundtrack is so-so for me so far.

Thanks for the great updates, Indizen.

For anyone who's inteested in one person's opinion, I saw Tashan on Saturday (here in Melbourne). I went with very low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. It was very funny and took the mickey out of the genre quite nicely. Anyone who's learning hindi will get a big belly laugh out of the heavily accented Hinglish used throughout the movie. I'm still giggling thinking about the plot surprises and 'what the...!' moments.

U Me aur hum however was a massive letdown I'm afraid. The whole first part was barely tolerable with really obnoxious protagonists (i use the term loosely), lots of disco lights, scantily clad western dancing girls (ho hum), excessive consumption of alcohol and poo jokes. Horrendous script. Utterly cringeworthy. Where was the damn editor?

I think I'm so scathing because I had pretty high expectations of Ajay as director and they were not just disappointed, but dashed into smithereens. (don't know why my expectations were so high, as actors don't necessarily make good directors).

The second half was an improvement on the first, and good performances from the leads. One really sweet moment where the cast sing an old movie song ("Chalte chalte" from Pakeezah ?sp, I believe) in their own voices (not miming to playback) unaccompanied, at a party, like normal people. Also, the framing narrative was nice. I did notice the similarities to the Notebook.

Anyway, it would be fun to hear other opinions, especially what folks thought were UMAH's redeeming features...

I really enjoyed Tashan. It's not particularly 'masala', it's more thriller - a fair bit of violence, criminal activity and bare flesh. Some romantic masala elements which were sweet to watch. I was worried it would be terrible with both AKs in one big movie (neither are favourites of mine), but Anil Kapoor makes a hilariously comic villain, and Akshay plays a country boy (similar to his role in Namastey London) who wants to lead a life of crime.

anarkali - Thanks for weighing in I will most definitely try to catch it tonight. That's too bad about U Me aur Hum. I may get it on DVD - I like to keep up with Kajol

Box Office Report

Tashan, Krazzy 4 and U Me aur Hum at box office

All eyes were set in on to this week's release Tashan for its formidable cast and the Yash Raj label. In fact this was the film that people were expecting could survive alongside the IPL fever. Sadly Tashan disappointed big time with its masala potboiler treatment.

Its position at No 1 on the charts shouldn't be taken as a positive sign to its prospects. It could get the spot only because there was no simultaneous big release. In fact the preceding week too didn't have a big release (Hope and a Little Sugar).

Re: U Me Aur Hum - I have a soft spot for the big Bollywood romance, and will forgive a lot if something delivers "emotion," but though I was content enough during UMAH, I doubt I'll ever see it again, which is unusual for me.

Positive things about it to me - it's Bollywood at least making a try at a romance with an adult protagonist - Ajay is a grown man, not "boyish," when he meets Kajol. I like the role he created for himself. Kajol is a wonderful screen presence, and the sets are beautiful, and the water (much of story occurs on cruise ship) is a fine blue.

Didn't like/don't recall songs.

Yes, went on the premier night in Vasco. I don't understand a word of Hindi, and thought that's why I didn't get the film. When I read the reviews the day after I realised that I had understood far more than I thought, and that I wouldn't have understood more even if it had been in my mother tongue. Does this make sense to anybody but me? Well, my point is that the film was so terrible I couldn't believe it, and chose to think that it was because I didn't understand it. Had good fun, though

More Terrible Reviews

This week's comedy has had very poor ratings:
Mr Black and Mr White
Arshad Warsi is completely wasted in this brainless film.

OK so I finally went to see Tashan - I was crying by the end from laughing. That movie had to be purposefully done to be over the top. I mean, the the ending included every cliched bollywood shoot-em-up-movie scenario. Where did those ninjas come from? hello?! So funny!

I also agree with Briped it helps to understand some hindi to find some of it funny. I have about 9 mos of Hindi under my belt so listening to Anil Kapoor's lines was pretty amusing. This movie had to be a joke? if not then...wow

Also, the glasses of wine I had with dinner before the movie also helped - I find a little alcohol makes any Bollywood movie more amusing I would recommend seeing this movie if you have a few drinks and want to see a lot of stereotypes in hindi flix played out to the max (Dil Dance Maare anyone??)
