Best dance and folklore show in India...where to go?

Hi to all. I'm on my final stages for my trip to India. It will be for 21 days and will include New Delhi, Varanasi, Agra and Rajhastan (Jaipur, Jodphur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur). Everything is set, except a place to enjoy a good dance and music show. Any of you can recommend the best place to go?

Thanks

Gilberto

Have u EVER come to the right place for info:

Delhi
25-29 Jan, 6 pm
Talkatora Indoor Stadium (centre of town, near Lohia Hospital)

Republic Day Folk Dance Festival
40 dances spread over 5 days, almost all states/regions taking part.
Some dances are also performed at a few other locations in town on different days.

Best that India has to offer at any one time and location.

Thanks Dilliwala,

My trip will be from February 8-28, 2008. I think I will miss the festivals you mentioned. Are there good shows in Hotels or Cultural centers?

Bummer. I will be in Agra on those days and not Delhi. I have been studying Bhangra (traditional and "modern") for about 2.5 years. Would have loved to have seen some of these performances!!

The Surajkund festival does indeed seem interesting and for once I may be at the right time at the right place - though only for an evening.

Would the best way to get there to just rent a car and driver from a travel agency? Would there be any organised tours from hotels in Delhi?

It's so frustrating trying to find info on these things on the web! Thank God for IM.

This year the dances will not be shown at Talkatora Stadium but at the Hamsadhwani Theatre, Pragati Maidan instead.

Time: 7 to 8 pm, till 29 Jan.

Entry free.
Vehicle entry is from Gate 1 on Bhairon Marg (opposite the Purana Kila parking area and bus terminal).
If using a bus or other public transport, u can enter from any of the other gates too, espesh those on Mathura Road. From there Gate 5 is closest to the Theatre, which is approx in the middle of PG.
