India on television. 'frequently'

There is now a plethora of programmes about India on the television in the UK this is something new.

The one that interested me most was named ‘Bombay Railway' it is fantastic.

The programme covers just about everything that you could think of, from the children who self employ themselves on the railway, the earliest history of the system and open statements like ‘India has never in 5000 years attempted to invade another country'. And slips in little statements of the country's history.

Acts of heroism where a driver had a heart attack and managed to halt the train and call for assistance before collapsing.

It was ongoing and gives a very good impression of things that are good in India, (we know the downside of that) notable is the fact that the name is ‘Bombay railway', the commentary however states ‘Mumbai'

~'seek and ye shall find'. Not what you were looking for, but you will find'.~
.....Me..... (In an off moment)

I hate it when they club Pakistan with India. I also hate it when they love to talk about the caste system. It's not as prevalent in India as the western media would have you believe. Imagine if the only talk about USA in India revolved around the Ku Klux Klan.

On the 60th anniversary of partition I think it's quite appropriate to talk about India and Pakistan together. I'm only a little puzzled why no mention has been made of Bangladesh (maybe they're lumping Bangladesh with Pakistan )

The caste system is at the very heart of Indian society and politics, and is almost completely misunderstood by the west. It deserves detailed examination.

The western media hardly ever mention the caste system, I wish they would, I have to buy an Indian newspaper to learn about it.

Sshhh, don't say that loudly in a village, unless you're from an upper caste.

I watched 'Bombay Railway' on BBC 4 last night, nice documentary, very touching moments with the kids who work at the stations, and a nice demonstration of how some people's entire lives revolve around and depend on the railway (like you Steven ).....

BBC World TV has a whole month full of programs about India and Pakistan right now.

Just yesterday I saw a documentary about Calcutta with emphasis on culture and arts, and the second part of a series about a couple in Delhi preparing for their wedding. Yesterday's half hour was about jewelry, gold, diamonds, etc.
The BBC also has shows about schools, the countryside, business and other topics in India this month. Very interesting for people like me who don't live there already.

More like "whole rest-of-the-month-of-August". Their blurbs here started in July, saying the same thing, i.e., "throughout August", but they only started this weekend.

BBC Documentaries and Programmes. India 60th.

There have been some fascinating programmes on the BBC just lately to coincide with Indias 60th anniversary of independance. Stuff on Mumbai railways and the railways in monsoon season. Comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar tracing his roots through India and the Punjab. The best is on now.... India by Historian Michael Wood. Hope some of the rest of you around the world can get to see some of these fascinating programmes.

I'm currently watching a BBC programme called "the Story of India" with some prancing patronising creep named Michael Wood in the presenters chair.
It'll probably arrive on BBC World shortly.Watch it for the pretty pictures but
stop your ears to Wood's snivelling and cringing.
