Bangladesh Rock Scene
So I have found out from my too cool desi hipster friends that there is a Bangladeshi alternative rock scene that has been budding in clubs there over the past couple of years. It apparently has a large youth following.
You've got to check out these two band links. "black" is the premier bangladeshi alternative rock band http://www.enterblack.com/ Full mp3 link to their song "Polap" http://www.amadergaan.com/mp3/Black/...-%20Opolap.mp3 and The Watson Brothers who are melodious rock. http://www.thewatsonbrothers.com/ cool stuff. I wonder if there is a Delhi, Munbai, or Chennai alternative rock scenes and what bands there are? I have to get both of these bands CDs when I'm in Delhi next week.

There is also a big rock scene in the North-Eastern States of India.
At the millennium celebrations on Majuli Island in Assam there were a couple of local bands that really got the younger generation going. Well, more than the younger generation as the ADC pulled me out of my chair to join in the fun. I lost my glasses that night - they must have popped out of my pocket. The music was a blend of Western rock and Indian pop with keyboards, lots of guitars, congas and drums and a very provocative female vocalist who really seemed to excite the young guys in the audience. Speaking with the band members on the ferry the next day they told me there were a lot of bands in the North East that gig between the various NE states. And I've never seen musical instrument shops anywhere else in India like the ones in Shillong! |

Can't help you on the band names, I'm afraid. Checked Caroline's diary but she didn't note them down and I can't remember them. Not that it matters much but for the record it wasn't the ADC - it was the SDO (Sub Divisional Officer) who pulled us onto the floor. As we had been guests of honour at the event it would have been bad manners to refuse. Better to risk a heart attack!
