I was looking over a site which sells books recorded in MP3 and ACC formats which might be an interesting proposition for those travelling with an iPod or other portable music system and has some spare capacity (which can be recovered after a read and delete). Their offerings seem priced well (from 25cents up!) although the library appears fairly modest in size -- they add a couple of books every week.
As a couple of examples, Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka is $4 and takes up around 62MB of space. The Raven, by Edgar Allan Poe is 50cents using 3.8MB. you can check it out here: http://www.telltaleweekly.com/#Mission m2 |

It got me thinking because it would be really useful for passing the time in airports and maybe even during flights -- for me, I can't read much more than magazines and newspapers when flying or in airports so a well-done book might be a nice way to both relax and get into a story. There are probably lots of sites out there for books in one of the compressed formats, I don't have an mp3 player so haven't been looking around. I guess the quality of the cast would have a lot to do with how engrossing the story would be.
A Suitable Boy was my best read of last winter ![]() m2 |
