Any good plays in Mumbai?

I am a big fan of musical plays in theatre. I was wondering if there are any places in Mumbai that have these. I know there is an Indian play that will be in Canada in August for a short time.. called "Bombay Dreams" and I am very excited to go see it.

I hope to be in India in Dec/Jan and am hoping to see atleast one play.

India does not have much of a modern theater tradition, though you can occasionally find a stage production, often at an arts festival or a university. Bangalore has a bit of a theater scene, largely because a director named Arjun Sajnani lives there and has almost single-handedly created it. India, however, doesn't have a big commercial theater industry like Broadway or the West End.

there is a thread here that vibhu put out about some of the plays/theatre...

http://www.indiamike.com/india/showthread.php?t=23023

there are about half a dozen theatre's in bombay and the plays are across languages..english, hindi, marathi, gujarati and hinglish

here's a link to Prithvi Theatre. in the western suburb of Juhu while the National Centre of Performing Arts [NCPA] at downtown Bombay houses a couple of theatres and is a popular location for plays, concerts and what not..

grab a copy of the local paper when you land in Bombay or the TimeOut Bombay magazine available at roadside newstands..and you should find the details with venues and stuff.

Macbeth by Aleque Padamsee should be something interesting to see and it has a good starcast too. Best to check out the magazine Time Out Mumbai or see the Mid-day newspaper for details on a daily basis. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.
