Anthony Bourdain in Rajasthan

No Reservations

Last night I watched No Reservations on the Travel Channel, anti-celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain's show that is part travelog, part food critique. He traveled through Rajasthan sampling the cuisine and experiencing different aspects from a 21st birthday party for the son of a maharaj to going to a jyotish and being told that he's lousy....uh....with the opposite sex....to the Desert Festival......

From his website you can download the episode to your IPod or listen to his comments on Indian veg food (the only veg food he likes because it has taste) or Bollywood (likes it but doesn't get it.)

catch it if it's broadcast in your area....

Thanks for the info. I missed it but they do alot of repeats so I hope I see it before we go to Rajasthan.

I like his show alot even though he often gets on my nerves by trying to prove how cool he is to everyone he meets. Very big on out-smoking and out-drinking everyone. BUT despite that, I try to never miss No Reservations. The last one I saw when he and his crew got trapped in Beirut was one of his best. He dropped his "I'm so cool, man" demeanor for a little while and I was especially moved when he went into the hotel kitchen too cook for his crew.

Talking

I think he was a little humbled when the jyotish told him that he's lousy with the ladies if ya catch my drift...

he ends the show by ordering the "super duper sexy" bhang lassi that will keep him going for 24 hours, according to the seller....

A good show with very little BS. Its impressive to see someone dive in and eat stuff offered by street vendors. A must see for those first time travellers apprehensive about trying street food

I loved the scene where he's eating the thali in a restaurant owned by two guys who are also full-time grad students and he says to the camera that (in effect) with their work ethic "they are going to be our masters one day...."

Personally, I liked Jeremy Piven's special on the same channel some months back, but yeah, I liked Anthony Bourdain's also. (I have a thing for Jeremy Piven anyway... maybe that is where the bias lies...) Nice to see some things like that on the travel channel. If nothing else it helps folks like my mom understand why we would want to go to India!

I appreciated (and could totally relate to) his obvious discomfort when left alone with his friend's rambunctious children while the parents prepared dinner!

also a funny scene!! especially with the kid just walking around with the rolled up carpet and Bourdain looks like "ok, what do I do now?"
