Just a heads up for IM members who might be in the Amsterdam area and need a Bollywood fix. Awards

Amsterdam to host Indian Film Academy Awards and film festival from June 9-11 .....

Cheers for the info my wife will be doing cartwheels when she learns SRK is attending.
I've recently gotten really into bollywood film as DVDs with subtiles have really opened up Bollywood to the world.
A'dam just up the road I wonder if we can get tickets?????

Thanks, I was looking for a good article on this but so far only general blurbs. The organizers have a website but in good Indian fashion I can't get it to work, maybe that's just me though... http://www.iifa.com/ You can do a search on +film +festival +india +amsterdam +iifa give or take a term and you'll get more hits.

Cyberhippie and others, an Amsterdam IM meet-up on the occasion might be nice although the Arena would be beyond my league or interest though. Maybe they'll hit some smaller venues too, let's keep an eye on it.

nb I saw Amitabh Bachchan announcing it on TV and he was adamant not to have the festival fall under the label of Bollywood as such.

can't get the iifa website to work. Why are they haiving the festival in Amsterdam? don't they usually have it in India?

From what I've been reading the festival is hosted at a different location each time. The site doesn't seem to work (yet) no. btw The awards are called Indian Film Academy Awards (IFAA) which may give you other hits.

btw Yes the event has been hosted at many places before.

I read here that tickets for the awards ceremony @ Amsterdam Arena on June 11th will be orderable from www.Ticketbox.nl, tel 0900-9393 (45 cpm) and starting at 75 euros

(going up to E 250

), excluding reservation costs. So I'll meet you guys for a beer or at the local cinema I guess if they do anything festive

It's supposed to be a several-day affair so you'd expect more low-key events in the margins.

nb Do a search on "iifa award" too.

Ah well I guess we now know why it's being held in Amsterdam!!! That's pretty expensive. Do we get a night out with SRK included in this price???
An Amsterdam meeting would be great by the way but let's wait until nearer the time a we're strapped for cash when we get home and will have to start earning before we start spending!!

Yup, my idea. We can make an announcement early June or so. We can always go for videos + popcorn right. (There used to be hardly known nightly screenings of Bollywood flics in Amsterdam really, I can check out if it's still the case.)
