Are you sure? Because I am sure that back then I was 100% ready with my manuscripts and addresses of 30 publishers across India with the convention, "Heck, if he can, then I can"
Sorry its a lame attempt at noveling, it was all hype, no substance!

I would highly reccomend that book!
I love Rohinton Mistry! He is a real writer to me, a bit like Charles Dickens was. He builds stories, he has real characters and India is pictured so well...

To answer the topic, if you look for novels a bit like the White Tiger, a police novel or something of that kind, you should try Vikram Chandra "Sacred games".
We often forget "Slumdog Millionaire", originally "Q&A", which is totally different from the film but really entertaining!
I also loved "Serious Men" by Manu Joseph. Light and clever!

My favourite Indian novel is "The Inheritance of Loss" by Kieran Desai...I would love to know what Indians think of it
It might be the best of times or the worst of times...but it's the only time you've got!

I heard about this novel too. It is quite successful in France. But there are so many books about India!

If you like modern dark crime stories, I remember reading "Witness the Night" by Kishwar Desai. It was a bit sad but fascinating.
