transportation options to bodhgaya from patna airport

mmm... it's pretty quiet in here. i hope someone can help me with this query. i would like to know what my transportation options to bodhgaya are from patna airport. i plan to fly from mumbai to patna, arriving at 1.35 pm. are there any regular buses that depart directly from the airport or should i just take a taxi? and how much would that be? alternatively, if i were to head to the bus station, would there still be buses to bodhgaya (before it turned dark, that is)? i understand from the bihar state tourism website that there are two daily departures (government buses?) from patna to bodhgaya, one at 7am and the other at 2pm. i don't think i will be able to make the afternoon departure, even if the flight is on time. furthermore, i have no idea where to board the bus!

thanks in advance.

Gaya (16 kms from Bodhgaya) has an Airport. Search and see if any direct flights are available from Mumbai-Gaya on the day you wish to travel. Both Patna and Gaya are major railway junctions in Bihar, so there are several trains between them (try searching on trainenquiry.com or indianrail.gov.in for schedules). You can also probably get taxis from outside the airport in Patna for Gaya/Bodhgaya.

Why not stay in Patna and then catch the early morning Bihar Tourism bus to Bodhgaya.

Hey galacticnic. Gaya is about 100 kms from the outskirts of Patna. I went there last year and I just caught a local bus towards Gaya from the place where the highway to Gaya starts.

When you leave Patna and head towards Gaya, once you exit the main city and get onto the national highway, there will be a point where there is a specific turn towards Gaya.

This is a pretty major junction and lots of buses will be heading to Gaya since its a major tourist spot. Please remember that you will have to switch buses about halfway.

Its a good 3 hour drive to Gaya from Patna by bus. Plus it only cost me around Rs. 250

Since you will be landing at Patna airport, another good idea would be to take a pre paid taxi from the airport directly to Gaya. Dont know if this is an option but you could give it a shot.

another thing to remember is that Buses will drop you off at Gaya Railway station. Bodhgaya is some 30 min away from there. You can catch an autorikshaw from outside the station to take you to Bodhgaya.

do not take an autorikshaw, take a car instead, costs the same, but safer and more convenient.

in your place, if I had enough time and a Buddhist interest, I would fly into Varanasi instead, visit Sarnath, then go by train to Gaya (from Mughal Sarai), or take a car directly to Bodhgaya. Should be less than Rs. 2000. I asked in BG the other way around.
