Yep, Incog, that concurs with most things I've read so far about travel in Bihar .... time-consuming or else pricey - or both!

Although, I have to say that the part about having every stop and wait agreed to with the taxi driver before setting out may not be unique to Bihar. In fact, most places where I hired taxis I found this to be the case. Most annoying in Andhra Pradesh and in parts of Madhya Pradesh, where the drivers simply decided where they would go - and stop to meet people - and then decided how long they'd wait for me... ie. gone much longer than agreed or else really huffy and bad tempered if made to wait longer than they thought necessary, that is, for a run in and run out visit. But you can wait parked on the side of the highway for up to an hour or so while they sort out their daily business. Few tips for those sort of drivers so far, thanks to their "lovely" manners.

This time I'm taking map printouts downloaded from drivingdirections.com, and if necessary arranging scripted translations in the local language...so there'll be no doubts about which road, which turn off to take and how long each part of the journey should take etc etc...But, even so, I'm not expecting miracles.

I'm frequent visitor to this city. I find this city has to go a long way to call itself to gr8 place to live. some old n country touch buildings and its historic presence makes it an integral city of india. Overly crowded, still under developed and "no to change" keeping its development at back foot. I thinks the beauty and charm of this city has not been tapped yet. the ghats are really good but maintenance is lacking. road's are too crowded. Unemployment's little high. people still very conservative..but scene are changing day by day..its a good sign.Patna saheb's a must place to visit. Sasaram is another historic place.

few restaurants provide really good foods... sizzler's from Chanakya. Chicken items from Kautalya.. It's less crowded place.this's the another reason to like it.

continues...
