Hotels in Patna
Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread because I'm toying with the idea of dashing into Bihar to visit the Barabar caves near Patna and also the museum in Patna, which appears to house an amazing collection of Mauryan, Kushana and Gupta period artifacts.
But I see that this will be only the second thread to appear in the Bihar forum. The other one's on train tracks ... does this mean that foreign tourists usually pass through the state without stopping? I hope not because I would really like it if some kind IM-er out there has visited Patna and could advise me about a lovely place to stay. I have memories from decades ago in India concerning chats with westerners who'd been to Patna, and they weren't all that positive. I'm hoping this was not true or that much has changed since. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. ![]() |

I thought many people have been going to Bodh Gaya, which was in Bihar last time I was there -- ah, but it's been a long time since those days!
Travelling from Kathmandu to Goa, one winter, with folks in a VW van, we took the ferry across the Ganges at Patna, but in turth, I don't remember much about the city, as we didn't linger. I'll certainly be looking forward to hearing all about it when you return.

Hi wonderwoman. Yes Bodh Gaya is in Bihar, and Patna's the closest big city. I was surprised too that there was nothing on it in the Bihar forum. Mind you, I'm still only toying with the idea for my end of year itinerary... nothing definite yet. But if I go, I'll let everyone on IM know about the trip.

Posting on the Home Page might help to increase posts in the Bihar forum. What's with the decision not to post there?

Crossing in a ferry to Patna, i am sure u all crossed Ganges before 1986, a bridge called mahatma gandhi setu was constructed and inaugurated in 1986 on the Ganges, that ferry service is no longer available now, i still remember cathing the ferry at Pahlejaghat and a glimpse of landmark of Patna- Golghar was sign of reaching Patna. I guess u were a member of so called Hippy group that time. Thanks alok ![]() |
