Karthik's made the best Paani Puri in town but the last time I had Paani Puri there I was underwhelmed. Maybe the loss of dirt and grime from CMH road has affected the taste. I guess I can take another shot at it just for reporting purposes .
I have noted the Paani Puri bit Prashant.

I just returned from my trip to Bangalore. Yes Fanoos is still there. I went twice to have their Jumbo Rolls. The only advice I would give is to make sure that you ask the chef walla to cook your meat extra. People with weak stomachs might be affected with undercooked meat.

No one makes kiababs as good at that place. Their beef curry was not as good; the meat was tough that evening.

Two other places where you should try chats...

1. Opp to Seshadripuram college - Nehru circle and only after 5pm till 9pm. Amazing masala puri and pani puri.
2. Gullu's chat in KumaraPark....not far from the above destination.

For Masala Dosas

1. Vidyarthi bhawan - Gandhi Bazaar.
2. CTR in Malleshwaram - opp to Malleshwaram ground for masala dosa and kali dosa.
3. Janata hotel in Malleshwaram 8th cross
4. MTR
5. Dwaraka for Kali dosa

Idly / vada

1. Bramhins coffee bar Basavanagudi
2. Veena Store on Margosa road in Malleshwaram
3. Small shop opp to Northwest Manipal hospital

Apart from these Hallimane (translated as village house) in Malleshwaram is also good for different variety of food.

Cheers!

My favourites :

Idly / vada / dosa

1.Push carts near Raja market on Avenue road / nagarathpet road junction - between 9 and 11 pm - also worth trying surrounding carts for bombay badam milk, hot jilebis, vada pav, gujrati papads and chats.

2. Malleswaram - Janatha hotel, Sree sagar ( CTR ), Raghavendra stores ( opp Malleswaram rly stn ) and veena stores.

3. Ballal residency on residency road

North indian / punjabi

Best of Punjab - RT nagar, angeeti and bobby da dhaba ( next to ulsoor gurudwar )

Chats

1.Unique chats and juices ( behind nehru circle BP petrol stn - seshadripuram ) also called as Byreshwara chats

2.Sree sagar - rajajinagar 1st block

3.Karthik chats - indiranagar

4.Nandi chats - behind water tank, BTM layout

Ice creams

1.Corner house - all over the city

2.Polar bear - RMV ( road opp ramaiah hosp )

Chinese

1.Chung wah - residency road cross

2.Rice bowl - lavelle road

3. mainland china - church street

Pizza ( though not in Bangalore ) - Mapro garden, panchgani, Maharashtra, despite their ( not to miss ) strawberry icecreams.

enough for now... trying to recollect more...

For veggie lovers, here are some options
1. GRAMEEN at Raheja arcade, Koramangala.
- Serves north indian
- Does not use artificial colors and more like home food

2. Luo-Han at HSR layout
- Serves Chinese (the only veg chinese restaurant i have come across)

3. Mayya's at Jayanagar 4th block
- South indian buffet dinner is good

4. Mast Khalander (there are many outlets, Koramangala one is good)
- Serves north indian

Another restaurant must try is "Urban Nawab" on outer ring road near marthalli. Its veg & non-veg restaurant with limited options on the menu and quite heavy on pocket. But the speciality is they serve 70% cooked sizzlers (appetizers) along with heated volcanic rock. Once it is served, you can use the volcanic rock to cook fully and eat leisurely.

Panipuri: In my opinion, Gullu's chat is over rated. I would always prefer the gaadi opp. to the college. Their tangy panipuri is amazing (without any sweet added). I would go there just for their hot chilli based paani which is amazing. No other place has remained as consistent as this.

Dosas: I think Janatha hotel has lost its charm. Sree Sagar(CTR) on 7th cross, still retains the benne dosa flavor even though the size has reduced drastically.

North Karnataka - Rotti oota : Nalapaka in Rajaji nagar (opp to Navarang theatre - road parallel to Rajkumar road) is good. The other place I would prefer to go is Hotel Basant Residency in Gandhinagar (not the kamat yatri nivas which every1 would brag about) which is pretty decent. My vote goes to Basant Residency

Veg Meals: People suggest Hotel Brindavan on MG Road which doesnt rate soo well with me. Options for vegetarian foodfare would be Hotel Konark on Residency road & Hotel Amruth(if it still exists there) on St Marks Road.

Amazing Veg Buffet: E-Inn beyong Electronic City (bommmasandra??) is an amazing place with a continental spread. Any vegetarians? Pl. head out here. Its a great place.

Chinese, Punjabi: Am yet to find an authentic place for this. Places like Bobby etc are not really to my liking for a punjabi meal.

I have been to both Kamat Yatrinivas and Basant Residency. My opinion is that Kamat is better than Basant Residency.
