Nandhini's in Frazer Town is good for Andhra style food.

Likewise, Richie's in Frazer Town (their butter chicken is WOW).

Other good ones are Tamarind, Barbecque Nation... Koramangla I think.

Anyone know where you can get amazing Chinese food here? Been looking for that, haven't found anything.

Those who are looking for some amazing idlis in its original format
you have to definitely try Veena stores on Margosa road in Malleshwaram. Idli is served with a small scoop of butter on it and plain chutney, no sambhar though.
You could also try their "Shavige bath" and "kesari bath" though the idlis are a hot fav.

Be prepared to eat out on the road, it's a small hole in the wall shop and no place to sit out but most commendable is the fact that they now have a token system and a guard to regulate the crowds especially on weekends. That's how good the food is.

So catch them early on a Sunday, they are open as early as seven in the morning!

Hyderbadi Biryani, close to Lifestyle and Garuda Mall.
The Authentic hyderbad style chicken biryani will leave you flush and teary eyed with the high dose of spices and at the same time you'll want more. The Tandoori is out of the world as well!

After gorging on my favourite nihari all the last month, I'm kinda tuckered out. But the urge's beginning to rise and I'm looking to get my fix of the stuff again. Here in Bangalore, that would mean looking for a stop gap, as there isn't the full experience normally available in the North. But there's a choice. I can try High Note on 100 ft road Indiranagar (opp Indiranagar Methodist Church ).

The chef is a nihari lover and since he grew up in Calcutta, I can expect the Sabir's of Chandi Chowk version. He is so proud of his work he recommends it as an entree. So the next time you go to High Note or (B Flat, its Lounge Section) order:

Starters
Chilly beef
Pot stickers
Stewed wonton

Main Course
Lamb Nihari with Dal Puri (this is a Calcutta breakfast speciality!)
Cottage Cheese stuffed Khulcha
Buna Chicken
Chilly prawn

Dessert
Stewed pear in a coulee of orange peel with ice cream

The above is a mix of Calcutta Awadhi and Chinese, and do not clash, surprisingly!

Of course if I wanted to be a purist, I'd insist on being served Nihari Khulcha, Lucknow style and expect it to get the stuff in a terracotta pot, at 6 in the morning. And I'd dip the croissant-like khulcha in the pot, while sitting on a string bed (charpoy ) in a medieval, mud walled hall, like they do it in the old walled section of Lucknow, but no such luck. Here in Bangalore, I'll be settling for eating it in more genteel surroundings , in an airconditoned room at Serengeti, at the Total Mall, Madivalla.

Starters
Mini Lamb Rack
Tandoori Prawn

Main Course
Nihari Khulcha
Dum Mutton Biriyani

Dessert
The House Kulfi

I'm going by memory here, so the menu may have changed. Not that I mind being surprised. These guys can be trusted: they know what the real thing is!

In the polynation food court in the Oasis mall (the one on intermediate ring road between Indra Nagar and Koramangala), there is a Chinese restaurant called Fire Wok (or so...I am not sure about the exact name)...

These guys serve a phenomenal noodle preparation - prepared in front of you. You get a bowl and can do your choice of noodles and vegetables (type and quantity). You also get to select your spices and sauces.... Must try and you will visit again.

Old bangalorean might know this one: Juke Box in koramangala. It's got something called beer batter chicken/fish, which I am yet to come across anywhere else in Bangalore.

Also the atmosphere is extremely cozy and it smacks of true old Bangalore, it's been here for the past 20 years now.

Another bangalore milestone, is Pecos on bridge road. It's got some of the best beer and chilli chicken ..yum yum...

Here you go:

The Sultan of Chaat and Other Lucknow Chow

The makkhan is also only for early birds. It melts when the sunrises. My experience while shopping with a chef for his restaurant.

Bangalore presently is a toughie, with the “development” work trashing all the built up good will: case to point the high end standalones at Church Street, Lavelle Road. Keep a ear to the ground: all the foodie meccas are moving to Indiranagar and Koramangala (remember you heard it here first ). Even the hole in the walls are having a hard time: I still haven’t found out where Karthik Chaat of CMH Road has shifted.

Here’s a Goa post I did:

Karthik's has shifted to the road parallel to Old Madras road. I don't know the name of the road. From 100 Ft. and CMH road junction, continue down 100 Ft. road towards Old Madras road, you will pass Dominoes pizza and Stones pub on the left, after the pub take the first left, after about 200 feet you will find Karthik's on the left.

Karthik's made the best Paani Puri in town but the last time I had Paani Puri there I was underwhelmed. Maybe the loss of dirt and grime from CMH road has affected the taste. I guess I can take another shot at it just for reporting purposes .
