Where to get motorbike Licence
Hey all,
I'm buying a 500cc motorbike and never had a licence in my home country. So I will have to get one for riding here. Firstly, does anyone know of a motorbike trainning school ? I assume i'll need to do a test? Secondly, where do I go to get the licence. In my country (Ireland) I can get a provisional licence to enable you to drive around and practise before taking the test. Is it the same here? Thanks, John |

Ask around for the state licensing authority. Going for driver training is a great idea. You can often get the license without knowing a thing or taking a test. That is a strong negative recommendation despite my having done that..

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle? If you have not? India is not the place to start -- especially with a 500cc bike. The road and traffic conditions make riding a motorcyle a death trap, especially for a novice.
As far as I know, there are no training schools like the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) in the US. Getting a license in India is not easy. Your best bet will be in a smaller town rather than a large city. try this link for info http://rto.kar.nic.in/guide.htm |

Driving in Bangalore should be easy.
1) You always have right of way. 2) Incase someone else doesn't realise it, beep your horn. 3) The direction you are traveling in is the correct lane, even if everyone else is coming towards you. 4) Traffic lights are a time to see how many vechicles you can almost touch at the same time. Seriously, i've already riden in B. its not that bad similiar to commuting by bike in Dublin city centre. But yeah Nick, if you see a white guy on a big black bike in Kormangala keep both feet on the pavement, oh thats right its Bangalore you can ride on those too LOL |

I just went through this so here is the scoop:
Google "intenational Driver license" Go to one of the companies- prices vary like crazy, so go with a cheaper one, it is all more or less the same.. Scan your home country license, signature, and a photo and email it to the company. They will fed ex your license. I was told that I needed this, but not a single person has ever asked to see it, except when I got a ticket for riding on a national highway without a helmet. The 500cc Enfield is awesome- you will have a great time, just be incredibly, incredibly careful.......and beeping your horn will not convince someone in a larger car to not run you over/off the road/ into someone else... |
