Thanks rangss, it looks good but I really don't want to be traveling so much in 3-4 days. Would prefer to base myself at one place and then maybe do short half-day trips around the base. Some evening would like to just sit and read a book.

Thanks everyone for the excellent suggestions.
here is my list, in order of preference:
1. Kutta
2. Chikmagalur
3. Kabini
4. jungle Inn
5.Medikeri (Coorg)

Now, I still don't know how to reach Kutta, by public transport? Lonelyaztec, please get online
Kabini: Do I need to book in advance? if yes, how do I do it?
Still haven't heard from anyone about self driver car hire or motorcycle hire
Fingers crossed....if all options fail, Nandi hills Zindabad

bhoohooo tit for tat!! time for revenge (...Jodhpur Vs Jaisalmer Vs ...)

Biligri Hills (B.R Hills)

About 230km from bangalore. Wildlife. on the delta/ mountain between Cauvery & the Kapila rivers. Bisons and elephents along with a lot of other exotic wildlife.

Nandi Hills

About 70 kilometers from Bangalore. Tippu's summer palace. Hill station , trekk, stunning views, a temple at the peak....
Bangaloreans' own 'near the city weekend hilstation.'

Bandipur
Near Mysore. Got chased by (mostly) wild elephants on the highway along the the other citizens of the jungle kingdom, Tigers, Gaur, Leopard,Sambar, Chital....

Or just do a 3 days pilgrimage to the different pubs in banglore

Thumbs up I agree Vinay

I agree vinay you don't want to push yourself with a hectic schedule. We relaxed at Jungle Inn. My mother and aunt had a relaxing time on the cottage porches just chillin. One gets slow with age. We youngters explored the area, inclduing wild life trips.

By the way did you ahve problems with the e-mail address for Jungle Inn. Someone e-mailed me a month or so ago and said they had trouble. If you do let me know and I do have an alternative e-mail. My e-mail is: ddevadatta@yellowbananas.com

I am not sure about self-driven cars. I never do that myself. Not sure I want to take the rick on Indian roads myself. I would be more relaxed with a driver and car. But to each their own.

Happy travels vinay..

Been there done that, it does not attract me anymore. Thats why I'm not talking about 'touristy' places. I'm kinda bored with the pub scene in B'lore too...so nothing new for me. yeah..maybe going down on the mysore road...just cross 'The Club' and then get into a road side desi drinking joint..have beer..then trek (3-4 hours) across the small hills to get to the Kanakpura Road on the south-west side..on the way get into any small village and eat hot lunch from the local shops..again get into one of the roadside shacks for beer..and roll down to 'Fireflies' for the star gazing nite....next day trace back to bangalore

Thanks ddevadatta, will keep you mail id handy.

GoaCanuck: Joining me for the pub strol/trek?..read above.
